The Santos Dumont Institute begins this Monday (11) – on the feed and stories of Instagram and Facebook – the series “ISD against Covid-19”, a set of questions and answers to unravel, based on science and official sources, the most common questions related to the disease caused by the new coronavirus.
The series is produced by students of the master's degree in neuroengineering and is part of a systematic content production line structured at the Institute to promote health education and reinforce the dissemination of verified information about the moment, combat misinformation and what the World Health Organization (WHO) called an infodemic.
All materials will be published on the website www.institutosantosdumont.org.br, under the Covid-19 tab, and can be downloaded and reproduced.
What is coronavirus, what is the incubation period for COVID-19, what to do if you have symptoms like coughing and fever, and when to go to the hospital are among the first questions answered. Click below to enlarge the images:
“The goal is take advantage of students' proximity to scientific research and make information more accessible to the population, with objective and simple language”, says the coordinator of research from the Edmond and Lily Safra International Institute of Neuroscience (IIN-ELS), ISD, Edgard Morya.
Master in Neuroengineering
Operating since 2006, IIN-ELS develops teaching, research and extension activities in neuroscience and neuroengineering, centered on two main thematic lines: brain-machine interface and neuromodulation.
The Institute's master's degree in neuroengineering, the first in Brazil in this field of knowledge, was approved in 2013, attracting professionals from areas such as physiotherapy, biomedical engineering, psychology, biomedicine, computer science, computer engineering, electrical engineering and others, such as biotechnology, medicine, biological sciences, civil engineering, control and automation engineering, chemical engineering and speech therapy.
The information gathered for the series on Covid-19 is based on scientific articles and official sources, such as the WHO. In addition to this content, the list produced by ISD on the pandemic includes informative, booklets, videos, folders and illustrations prepared by the Institute's multidisciplinary team – which includes obstetricians, infectious disease specialists and physiotherapy and nursing professionals, as well as tutors and students of the Multidisciplinary Residency in Healthcare for People with Disabilities, in the areas of psychology, speech therapy, social work and physiotherapy.
The topics covered range from how to identify symptoms of the disease to practical changes in daily services, precautions to be taken and integration and leisure activities for a healthy routine during quarantine. The production is discussed and developed through remote work. All content is available on the page institutosantosdumont.org.br/covid-19., in the “ISD Educational Materials: Covid-19” tab.
The Santos Dumont Institute is a Social Organization of the federal government linked to the Ministry of Education.
