The Santos Dumont Institute (ISD) celebrates, in 2024, a decade of qualification as a Social Organization by the Federal Government. To celebrate the brand, conferences, scientific days, educational, cultural and social activities aimed at both the internal public and the external community will be held throughout the year.
The official program begins this Thursday (4) with a master class by researcher emeritus and creator of ISD, neuroscientist Miguel Nicolelis. The event takes place from 3:30 pm, in the auditorium of the Edmond and Lily Safra International Institute of Neuroscience (IIN-ELS), one of the ISD units in Macaíba, in the metropolitan region of Natal.
The master class will be attended by around 200 people, who signed up using a form made available by ISD through social media. The audience will be divided between the auditorium, with capacity for around 100 people, and adjacent spaces, where there will be simultaneous video transmission.
On Friday (5), the program continues with a 10th anniversary ceremony, which will bring together representatives of the Federal Government, state and local authorities and members of civil society. The ceremony takes place from 2pm, also in the IIN-ELS auditorium.
During the ceremony, the launch and obliteration of the commemorative stamp for 10 years of ISD, made by Correios, will take place. Obliteration consists of marking the stamp with a personalized stamp, which is then sent to the Museu dos Correios, in Brasília. The stamp's art was developed by the artist and professor at the Department of Arts at UFRN, Marcos Andruchak, and refers to the work developed by the Institute in the care of maternal and child health and people with disabilities, in neurosciences and neuroengineering.
Neoenergia Cosern will also deliver a photovoltaic plant to the ISD. The equipment has a capacity of 196.62 kWp, enough to supply 248 homes for 30 days, and is the largest plant donated by the company through the Energy Efficiency Program, regulated by the National Electric Energy Agency (ANEEL). The plant was installed on the roof of the IIN-ELS building and will supply the two ISD units: the IIN-ELS itself and the Anita Garibaldi Health Education and Research Center (Anita).
The program will also feature speeches from invited authorities and tributes to employees, students and users of ISD care lines, accompanied by residents and preceptors of the Institution.
Historic
The Santos Dumont Institute (ISD) is a Social Organization linked to the Ministry of Education (MEC). ISD operates from two units: the Anita Garibaldi Health Education and Research Center (Anita) and the Edmond and Lily Safra International Institute for Neuroscience (IIN-ELS). The two units are located in the municipality of Macaíba.
Created by neuroscientist Miguel Nicolelis, the ISD was inspired by the innovative figure of Alberto Santos Dumont, father of aviation. ISD flights are guided by responsibility and social impact. The institution operates in the areas of maternal and child health, health of people with disabilities, neurosciences and neuroengineering.
Social Organization
A presidential decree of February 27, 2014 qualified ISD as a Social Organization – private, non-profit legal entity that has obtained OS qualification to carry out activities of public interest. Currently, ISD carries out its activities through a Management Contract signed with the Ministry of Education.
