Posted in September 24, 2024

The managers of the Santos Dumont Institute (ISD) units, Lilian Lira Lisboa and Edgard Morya, participated in an event commemorating the National Day of Struggle for People with Disabilities, promoted by the Ministry of Sports, in Brasília/DF. The meeting, which took place on the 19th, was attended by Minister André Fufuca.

Two new sports programs aimed at people with disabilities were presented on the occasion: Semear Paradesporto and Maré Inclusiva. The projects, led by the Ministry of Sports, aim to promote social inclusion through sports, with the aim of promoting the physical, social and emotional well-being of people with disabilities.

Maré Inclusiva offers free and accessible adapted surfing lessons, aiming to develop autonomy and quality of life, with a focus on women and individuals in situations of social vulnerability, who receive benefits such as Bolsa Família. Semear promotes the inclusion of people with disabilities through free sports practice and the training of qualified professionals in the area. Both serve people with disabilities from the age of 6.

“ISD considers these programs as strategies aligned with the parasports care line, which complements the other lines aimed at various health conditions treated in our service”, says Anita manager, Lilian Lisboa.

Users of the Specialized Rehabilitation Center IV (CER IV) of the ISD, regardless of age or health condition, use parasports as a tool for social inclusion, recreation, rehabilitation and habilitation, forming part of the comprehensive health care of people with disabilities. Since 2023, ISD has been accredited by the Brazilian Paralympic Committee (CPB) to promote parasports in Rio Grande do Norte, through the ISD/Macaíba Reference Center. Currently, bocce and parathletics are offered to adults and children aged 7 and over free of charge. The activities take place at ISD units in Macaíba.

The centers aim to foster and promote the dissemination of the values of parasports in all regions of the country. At the ceremony, the Ministry of Sports praised the partnership with the CPB to promote parasports in the country. “Our actions aim to spread the opportunity for people with disabilities to practice sports throughout Brazil,” stated Fábio Araújo, national secretary of Parasports.
