Derived from Latin innovation The meaning of the word innovation has been increasingly used in times when truly genuine creations are demanded. To talk about the topic “Innovation in Health”, the Santos Dumont Institute (ISD) received on April 15, Emmeline Lucena, Regional Manager in Brazil at Techstars, a North American company that accelerates projects in early stages.
The initiative was organized in Macaíba (RN) by the Multiprofessional Residency in Health Care for Persons with Disabilities it's from Postgraduate in Neuroengineering of ISD with the aim of creating an environment conducive to the emergence of ideas that can be transformed into reality.
During the event, health professionals, researchers, master's students in neuroengineering, ISD multidisciplinary residents, as well as the external public who registered, were able to interact and think about ideas that improve some contexts in the health area, especially within the scope of the Unified Health System (SUS). Emmeline congratulated the ISD initiative and said she believes that the fruits of this moment may emerge in the future: “I think it is very important to provide this for people who in some way already wanted to develop ideas, but did not have the safe environment or stimulus to do so”, she commented. .
In the workshop, Emmeline gave examples and some steps to identify problems and propose innovative solutions in order to facilitate processes and launch products that meet the demands of specific audiences. Thinking about the health area, she said that simple actions such as creating spaces suitable for discussing problems, in interaction with all agents involved in this context, can result in concrete actions: “From the moment a project emerges, it comes to the market and has been validated with users, there are funds from private companies in Brazil that can accelerate this business”, he explained.
After the workshop, Emmeline learned about the work of Anita Garibaldi Health Education and Research Center (CEPS) It's from Edmond and Lily Safra International Institute of Neuroscience (IIN-ELS). Now, it remains to combine the well-known Brazilian creativity with the desire to innovate and create a more just, humane and sustainable reality from the Brazilian northeast.
