ISD promotes a lecture on the inclusion of young people with disabilities in the labor market; learn how to apply

Posted in March 27, 2023

The Santos Dumont Institute (ISD) is promoting, next Tuesday (28), at 3pm, a lecture with psychologist and Sebrae/RN trainee Myleyde Silva, on the inclusion of young people with disabilities in the job market. The lecture is aimed at people with disabilities, family members, caregivers and professionals. The idea is to discuss professional qualifications and possible strategies for inserting young people with disabilities into the job market. Registration is free and can be done via the link: https://forms.gle/J2ebxcCmxwKCvjTX6

According to the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE), the participation rate of people with disabilities in the job market is 28.3%, less than half the rate of 66.3% recorded for people without disabilities.

According to ISD's social worker preceptor, Renata Rocha, the insertion of young people with disabilities into the job market is a topic of great social relevance. “The inclusion of young people with disabilities in the job market is the result of achievements by social movements, with the 1988 Federal Constitution being an important milestone in several achievements of these segments”, he states.

Access to work of their free choice and acceptance, in an inclusive and accessible environment, with equal opportunities is a right for people with disabilities. Companies with 100 or more employees are obliged to fill 2% to 5% of their vacancies with rehabilitated or disabled people (Law 8,213, 1991). Public competitions must also reserve vacancies and positions for these people.

“The inclusion of people with disabilities in the job market has contributed to a more inclusive and democratic process. The company needs to look at issues related to accessibility and an architectural environment more adapted to this young person”, highlights Renata Rocha.
