The professor and researcher at the Santos Dumont Institute (ISD), in Macaíba, Denis Delisle Rodriguez, participated this Tuesday (16) in a seminar at the Center for Medical Biophysics at the Universidad de Oriente, in Cuba. The event took place amid celebrations for the Center's 30th anniversary and Cuban Science Day, celebrated on January 15th.
The theme of the seminar was “Development of systems based on machine learning for motor, cognitive and communication assistance and training”. On the occasion, Rodriguez, who graduated from Universidad de Oriente and is originally from Cuba, presented the results of research he is carrying out at ISD involving the development of brain-computer interfaces, and spoke about the possibilities of partnerships with the Center for Medical Biophysics.
The expectation is that the international collaborations established by the researcher can contribute to advances in the line of movement and muscular rehabilitation studies in both countries. “It was important to identify opportunities for new collaborations in the area of brain-computer interfaces with magnetic resonance methods, where the Center for Medical Biophysics was a global pioneer”, highlighted Denis Rodriguez.
In addition to the scientific discussions, the seminar was even more special for Rodriguez because it represented a return to an old home. “For me it was important to return as an international speaker to the Research Center, where I began my first steps as a researcher. It was also an opportunity to present to junior and senior researchers our mission at ISD, the Postgraduate program and the advances in our research”, he celebrated.
Denis Delisle Rodriguez has a PhD in Electrical Engineering from the Federal University of Espírito Santo (UFES), a Master's degree in Biomedical Engineering from the Universidad de Oriente Cuba and a degree in Telecommunications and Electronics Engineering from the Universidad de Oriente Cuba. He is a researcher and professor in the postgraduate program in Neuroengineering at the Santos Dumont Institute.
