Imagine a practice in which basic health care services are offered jointly with the training of health professionals? This is the main pillar of Anita Garibaldi Health Education and Research Center (Anita), founded in 2008 in the rural area of the municipality of Macaíba, in Rio Grande do Norte (RN). It is part of the Unified Health System (SUS) as a reference service for multidisciplinary care for maternal and child health and rehabilitation in the State of Rio Grande do Norte, linked to the demands of the community where it offers its services.

Anita is dedicated to the training, development and continuing education of teachers, preceptors, health professionals and managers involved with public policies in Education, Health, Science, Technology and Innovation. To this end, it always seeks to delight everyone who passes through its facilities, through interprofessional work combined with qualified technical-scientific training and the ethical-humanistic attitudes of its multidisciplinary team.

Currently, one of the main objectives of Anita is to act in the training, development and continuing education of health professionals, in line with national curriculum guidelines and educational policies. Through lato and stricto sensu undergraduate and graduate teaching and research actions, centered on concepts of social responsibility, equity, quality and efficiency to generate scientific evidence, Anita also acts in the construction of strategies and promotion of partnerships capable of strengthen and assist the Unified Health System (SUS).

Since 2016, Ordinance No. 1,430 of the Ministry of Health has qualified Anita as a Specialized Center for Hearing, Physical and Intellectual Rehabilitation (CER-III). In day  On August 6, 2021, the Ministry of Health published, in the Official Journal of the Union, Ordinance No. 1.842, signed by Minister Marcelo Queiroga, which officializes the category change of the Anita Garibaldi Specialized Rehabilitation Center (CER Anita) from III to IV .

Since then, in addition to rehabilitation services for hearing, intellectual and motor impairments, the CER IV Anita, operated by the Santos Dumont Institute (ISD) will begin to assist patients with visual impairments. The CER managed by ISD was the first in the Northeast region to take care of the health of people with disabilities integrated into a research and innovation system, through work carried out jointly with the International Institute of Neurosciences Edmond and Lily Safra (IIN-ELS).

In almost a decade of activity, Anita has consolidated its role in the SUS outpatient referral network in the state of Rio Grande do Norte. This context makes it possible to offer different scenarios for the practice of academic activities and mandatory curricular internship for the Medicine, Physiotherapy, Psychology, Nursing and Social Work Courses at the Federal University of Rio Grande do Norte (UFRN).

The activities developed at Anita include the following areas: high-risk prenatal care; Specialized Assistance Service for pregnant women and children living with HIV/AIDS (Maternal and Child SAE); Multidisciplinary Service for Attention to Autistic Spectrum Disorder (SEMEA); infectology in pregnancy; fetal medicine; childcare; pediatrics; child neurology; electroencephalography; ultrasound; physiotherapy in neuropediatrics and early stimulation of the newborn; physiotherapy in women's health; adult and child psychology and Clinical Analysis Laboratory.
