On August 23rd,\u00a0Fabricio Brazil<\/strong>, researcher at the Edmond and Lily Safra International Institute of Neuroscience (IIN-ELS) participated in the\u00a01st Biomedical Engineering Conference<\/a>, at Univates, in Lajeado-RS. As of 2018, this University began offering the Biomedical Engineering course and the event was a space for discussions between researchers and those interested in this area, which combines health and technology studies.<\/p>

On the occasion, the researcher spoke about Neuroengineering applied to rehabilitation: \u201cI presented the IIN-ELS research lines and projects involving Brain-Machine Interface (BMI) and neuromodulation, highlighting our studies in the research phase involving brain and spinal cord stimulation for the treatment of Parkinson's disease, development of BMI for upper limb training,\u00a0Sophia project<\/a>, in addition to ICM intended for controlling prosthetics for amputees\u201d, he explained.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

Fabr\u00edcio, who is the coordinator of the IIN-ELS Graduate Program, emphasized that the area of Neuroengineering has attracted a lot of attention in the field of Biomedical Engineering research, which in his opinion arouses interest not only from students, but also from industry and healthcare development, and can generate economic advances in the long term: \u201cOur Master\u2019s degree in Neuroengineering, offered in Maca\u00edba-RN, has aroused the interest of students with the most diverse backgrounds, who together contribute, each with their expertise, to solving complex problems. Among some studies that we can mention in the area of rehabilitation research, I highlight those involving 3D prototyping for the construction of prostheses and orthoses, both activated by a non-invasive Brain-Machine Interface (BMI), wearable sensors for Human-Machine Interface, immersive virtual reality and kinematics with electromyography. These are studies that may seem a little distant, but in reality they are part of the daily experience of our students during the course and can bring good perspectives in the area of rehabilitation\u201d, says the researcher.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t
