The seventh edition of Brain Week<\/strong>, which takes place from March 11 to 16, brings the theme \u201cEducation transforms\u201d with actions aimed at all ages, showing how Neuroscience is present in our daily lives. Bringing science closer to people and showing how essential education is in the development of society are the objectives of the event, held annually by the Brain Institute (ICe) of the Federal University of Rio Grande do Norte (UFRN). In 2018, Brain Week has the support of Santos Dumont Institute (ISD)<\/strong> and will have free activities in Natal, Maca\u00edba and Serra Negra do Norte.<\/p>

About participating in the event, Manuela Sales<\/strong>, researcher at Edmond and Lily Safra International Institute of Neuroscience (IIN-ELS\/ISD)<\/strong>, states: \u201cWe believe that Brain Week comes at a great time to provide, in addition to the benefits inherent to extension activities, an excellent opportunity for cooperation between the two important centers of neuroscience in Rio Grande do Norte: IIN-ELS (ISD) and ICe (UFRN). We are very pleased with the schedule of activities and the participation of the academic community. This will certainly be the first of many collaborations to come.\u201d<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

On the 12th and 13th, lectures will be offered in the auditorium of the Instituto Metr\u00f3pole Digital (IMD\/UFRN), two of which will be given by researchers from Edmond and Lily Safra International Institute of Neuroscience (IIN-ELS\/ISD)<\/strong>: On the 12th, at 6 pm, the researcher Andre Salles<\/strong> will speak on the topic \u201cMind reading: Decoding neural activity\u201d; also on the 12th, at 7:30 pm, the researcher Mariana Araujo<\/strong> will give the lecture \u201cParkinson's Disease: Contributions and Challenges of Neuroengineering\u201d.<\/p>

On the 15th, there will be activities in the Quilombola Community of Capoeiras, in Maca\u00edba, where the ISD has been working since 2015 through the Belly Project<\/strong><\/a>. Researchers and master's students in Neuroengineering at IIN-ELS will promote actions involving virtual reality devices, thought waves and fractal theory, all explained in a playful and interactive way to the community's residents.<\/p>

Brain Week is part of a worldwide movement Brain Awareness Week<\/em> (BAW<\/em>) promoted by the Dana Foundation, with the aim of carrying out a global awareness campaign on the importance of research in Neuroscience, in addition to publicizing the studies developed by the Brazilian Society of Neuroscience and Behavior (SBNeC). In Rio Grande do Norte, ICe-UFRN has as partners the Pro-Rectory of Extension (Proex), the Santos Dumont Institute (ISD), the Graduate Program in Psychobiology (PsicoBio) and the city governments of Natal and Serra Negra do Norte.
