Between November 29th and 30th, Maca\u00edba (RN) was the meeting point for researchers and postgraduate students from across the country, during the 5th Neuroengineering Symposium<\/strong><\/a>, promoted by Edmond and Lily Safra International Institute of Neuroscience (IIN-ELS)<\/strong><\/a>.\u00a0<\/p>

In the first edition held at the new IIN-ELS headquarters, at the Brain Campus, the event welcomed speakers from national institutions, who addressed different topics, from how the act of cycling can activate the brain's reward system, through discussions on locating sound source or studies relating to the reduction of anxiety when alcohol consumption is suppressed. Symposium participants also heard lectures on quantifying the stability of human gait; decomposition of the electromyographic signal; and also how cities willing to innovate can leverage economic, social and human development.<\/p>

To the IIN-ELS Research Coordinator, Edgard Morya<\/strong>, the V Symposium stood out for the public's interaction with the IIN-ELS facilities, at the Brain Campus, which offers possibilities for cooperation to interested institutions and scientists. Mariana Araujo<\/strong>, researcher at IIN-ELS and member of the Organization Committee for this edition of the event, stated that the Symposium would not be possible without the participation of IIN-ELS Master's in Neuroengineering students, who supported the organization, in addition to offering short courses during the event .<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

The physical\u00a0Welber Leal Miranda<\/strong>, professor at the Federal Institute of Bahia (IFBA), Paulo Afonso Campus, sought out several conferences in the area of neurosciences and among the offers, he chose to present a poster at the V Neuroengineering Symposium, bringing a study on data analysis from electroencephalogram hardware (EEG) using the device MindWave<\/em>. Miranda said that possible practical applications of this study could be the control of objects with mental states. His work has already been published in an article, but the V Neuroengineering Symposium marked the first time that this study was presented at a scientific event. Your guide,\u00a0Lara Silva Xavier<\/strong>, a 4th period electrical engineering student at IFBA Paulo Afonso, also came to the Symposium to present a poster and commented on her interest in bioprinting and also about her desire to increasingly focus on signal processing, in the area of neuroscience. Both said that the experience at the V Symposium was very good and spoke about their desire to carry out future collaborations with IIN-ELS.<\/p>

At the end of the Symposium, the best works were announced, whose presenters received free registration for the next edition of the Neuroengineering Symposium as a prize. The winners were:<\/p>

A faithful participant of the event since 2016, the professor at the State University of Londrina, Eddy Krueger<\/strong>, assured: in the next edition of the Neuroengineering Symposium, he will travel from Paran\u00e1 to Rio Grande do Norte by motorcycle. No one can deny that this is a clever way to activate the brain's reward system.<\/p>
