Parkinson's disease is the second largest neurodegenerative disorder in the world, behind only Alzheimer's. Data from the World Health Organization (WHO) estimate that approximately 1% of the world population aged 65 and over suffers from Parkinson's. In Brazil, around 200 thousand people live with the disease, which has no cure.<\/p>

Thinking about offering greater awareness about the disease and demystifying Parkinson's, the Santos Dumont Institute (ISD)<\/strong> and the Federal University of Rio Grande do Norte (UFRN)<\/strong>\u00a0On April 27th, they held recreational activities open to the public interested in the topic. The program included a conversation with health professionals, a game of myths and truths about Parkinson's, simulation of some motor symptoms and physical activities, including walking in the area.<\/p>

The activities were conducted by a team, multidisciplinary residents and patients from the\u00a0Anita Garibaldi Health Education and Research Center (CEPS)<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0together with master's students in neuroengineering from Edmond and Lily Safra International Institute of Neuroscience (IIN-ELS)<\/strong><\/a>, as well as professionals and students from UFRN. The action took place in the month in which World Parkinson's Disease Day is celebrated, celebrated annually on April 11th.\u00a0<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

Health education occurs permanently<\/strong><\/h3>

\u00a0<\/p>

Since 2016, CEPS Anita Garibaldi has been authorized by the Ministry of Health as Center Specialized in Rehabilitation (CER III)<\/strong> in the areas of hearing, physical and intellectual disabilities. The ISD CER actions are offered by the Unified Health System (SUS) to users in Maca\u00edba, Natal, Parnamirim, Extremoz and S\u00e3o Gon\u00e7alo do Amarante, and are organized in clinics. One of them is dedicated to Parkinsonian users and in addition to the multidisciplinary assistance offered to patients and families, the CEPS Anita Garibaldi team also promotes monthly meetings bringing discussions about different aspects of the disease in the group. Educates Parkinson's<\/strong>, which takes place on the last Mondays of the month, at CEPS Anita Garibaldi, in Maca\u00edba (RN). Anyone interested in the topic can attend and there is no need to register in advance. People coming for the first time must present the following documents at CEPS reception: copies of ID, CPF, SUS Card and proof of residence. The schedule is published on ISD's social networks:<\/p>
