On her last official day as Rector of the Federal University of Rio Grande do Norte (UFRN), Professor Angela Maria Paiva Cruz<\/strong>, was honored by the board of directors of the Santos Dumont Institute (ISD) before leaving office. She ends her second term marking the history of UFRN by being the first female Rector of the Institution, having started her first term in 2011 and her second in 2015. With a degree in Mathematics, a Master's in Philosophy and a PhD in Education, she also held a prominent position in the Brazilian educational field by presiding over the\u00a0National Association of Directors of Federal Higher Education Institutions (Andifes)<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0between 2016 and 2017. In her speeches and interviews, \u00c2ngela has always highlighted the importance of collective action in the routine of federal universities. In October 2018, on the occasion of the 10th anniversary of the Anita Garibaldi Health Education and Research Center (CEPS)<\/strong>, the Professor was also honored in the gallery \u201cA Woman's Place Is Wherever She Wants It<\/strong>\u201d, which features several pioneering women from Rio Grande do Norte in various areas of activity (photo album and details HERE<\/strong><\/a>).<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

On May 27, in one of her last commitments as Dean, she received from the hands of Reginaldo Freitas Junior<\/strong>, General Director of the Santos Dumont Institute (ISD), a plaque of tribute, which reads the following message:<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

The Santos Dumont Institute (ISD) honors and thanks the Magnificent Rector of the Federal University of Rio Grande do Norte (UFRN), \u00c2ngela Maria Paiva Cruz, for her loyal partnership during her tenure. The ISD finds great inspiration in UFRN, which radiates, with knowledge and social commitment, all the excellent work carried out in more than sixty years of operation. Your Excellency leaves a legacy of important achievements and paths opened for UFRN to continue being an institution of knowledge production, respect for diversity, innovation and social responsibility. On the occasion, she said she was very happy with the functioning of the ISD, which, in her words, promotes research, innovation and inclusion. The Professor revisited in her speech the beginning of her contact with the Institute: \u201cI remember with great satisfaction and joy having participated in the process of implementing this project of the Santos Dumont Institute, which I have always considered to be of great relevance for the state of Rio Grande do Norte and for UFRN\u201d.<\/p>

The University is the main institutional partner of the ISD's teaching activities for health professions and through the Agreement Term No. 5798.11.0117 the Institute carries out several of its activities, especially working on the training of undergraduate and graduate students from UFRN through mandatory curricular internships. Between 2014 and 2018, the ISD received 1,146 undergraduate students and 149 residents for experiences at CEPS Anita Garibaldi, in Maca\u00edba, which operates as a teaching health center for training health professions within the scope of the Unified Health System (SUS). "The Center (for Education and Research in Health Anita Garibaldi) is a source of pride for Rio Grande do Norte. The students I talk to are surprised, because they never imagined that in Rio Grande do Norte, during their training period, they would encounter the systematics of teaching, research and assistance. This is not my testimony, it is the students\u2019 testimony\u201d, emphasized the Rector.<\/p>

At the end of the meeting, \u00c2ngela said that she was finishing her eight-year term with the feeling of having contributed to the evolution of the neuroscience field through the presence and work of the Santos Dumont Institute.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t
