In recent weeks, the Edmond and Lily Safra International Institute of Neurosciences (IIN-ELS), in Maca\u00edba (RN), defended dissertations for the Master's Degree in Neuroengineering. After another intense cycle of presentations covered with a wide range of topics, eleven students won the title of Master in Neuroengineering.<\/p>

Researcher Fabr\u00edcio Brasil, Postgraduate Coordinator of the IIN-ELS, evaluated the final result as very positive. He points out that the works were very diversified, addressing, for example, research for the manufacture of low-cost devices and eventual implementation in the Unified Health System (SUS), in addition to technologies that contribute to the non-use of experiments on animals. \u201cThese are works that range from the experimentation bench involving microscopy, visualization of neurons, to application in patients in hospitals and rehabilitation clinics\u201d, he explains.<\/p>

Severino Netto, one of the new Masters in Neuroengineering, presented his research on the development of a system that identifies the direction of gaze and from that facilitates the interaction of bedridden patients with little mobility, enabling actions such as turning a lamp on or off through from an external device. The technology developed by him also helps communication with caregivers in case of any need of the patient.<\/p>

\u201cI intend that, with the improvement of the system, it will be possible to directly impact people's lives. The main goal is to take this technology to hospitals, and especially to public hospitals\u201d, emphasizes Severino.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

External professors from Brazilian and foreign universities also participated in the arguments of the last few days and, according to Fabr\u00edcio, praised the projects presented, explaining that they are at the same level of research carried out in the institutions where they work.<\/p>

The Master in Neuroengineering offered by IIN-ELS is the first in Brazil recommended by the Coordination for the Improvement of Higher Education Personnel (CAPES), and since its inception in 2013 it has trained 49 masters in this area. The course is free, aimed at graduates in the areas of Health, Biology (Biology, Medicine, Psychology, etc.) Selection processes take place twice a year and are announced HERE<\/a>.<\/p>
