Taking care of ourselves: combating oppression, diversity of experience and student mental health<\/strong>: this was the theme of the XXVI National Meeting of Speech Therapy Students (Enefon)<\/strong>, which happened in Federal University of Pernambuco (UFPE)<\/strong> between July 24th and 28th of this year. About diversity of experience, the students of Multiprofessional Residency in Health Care for Persons with Disabilities (RMSPD)<\/strong> understand well and the reports of the experiences lived in Maca\u00edba (RN) stood out at the event to the point that the works presented received 3rd place.<\/p>

Who represented the Anita Garibaldi Health Education and Research Center (CEPS)<\/strong> On the occasion, it was speech therapist Nancy Sotero, who is part of the 2019\/R1 class of the RMSPD and was the only residency student from Brazil registered for the event, where the majority were undergraduates. She presented two experience reports: one about the experiences of speech therapists in interdisciplinary work in multi-therapeutic groups at the Anita Garibaldi Center; and another about the RMSPD Program.<\/p>

Speech-Language Pathologist and Internship Supervisor at CEPS, Mar\u00edlia Pinheiro, attributes the event's prominence to the fact that the inclusion of speech-language pathology in a multidisciplinary care program is still new. She explains that at the Anita Garibaldi Center, speech-language pathologists are included in the entire care process, as are professionals from other areas:\u00a0in welcoming the patient during triage, in the overall assessment, in team planning discussions, in individualized care and in care in multi-therapeutic groups.<\/span><\/p>

Nancy mentions that many participants at the event were impressed by the institution. \u201cThe structure and organization of the service attracted a lot of attention. Many people were unaware of the existence of a Specialized Rehabilitation Center, located in a rural town, with such a dense organization and so many activities,\u201d she explains.<\/p>

Talita Trigueiro, a student in the 2018\/R2 class of the CEPS Residency who participated in the award-winning projects, emphasizes that the relevance of the RMSPD lies in offering broader and more in-depth training that goes beyond the clinical perspective. Mar\u00edlia adds: \u201cIt is important to understand how the health professional, not just the speech therapist, can be involved in rehabilitation, in a work of humanization and support, in order to understand the patient as a whole and not as a part\u201d.<\/p>

The RMSPD Program is a pioneer in Brazil and the first class began in 2018. CEPS is accredited by the Ministry of Health as a Specialized Rehabilitation Center (CER III) in the areas of physical, intellectual and hearing disabilities. Thus, the difference is that CEPS Residency students can work in the various clinics offered by the Center in Maca\u00edba (RN).<\/p>
