Node World Cerebral Palsy Day \u2013<\/strong>\u00a0World Cerebral Palsy Day<\/strong><\/a> -, celebrated on October 6th, the Santos Dumont Institute (ISD)<\/strong> has joined forces with several partners to offer activities in the outdoor area of Arena das Dunas, in Natal (RN). This year, the theme of the event, held on a global scale, was \u201cMoving as One\u201d, to draw attention to the benefits of sports and physical activity in improving the quality of life of people with Cerebral Palsy (CP). People around the world wore green and monuments were lit up in this color as a way to draw attention to the cause.<\/p>

The public was able to learn more about the topic through adapted sports activity stations and the workshop \u201cdiscovering the limits of Cerebral Palsy\u201d. These activities were offered by ISD in partnership with Federal University of Rio Grande do Norte (UFRN)<\/strong> and the\u00a0Maca\u00edba Sports and Leisure Department<\/strong>.<\/p>

The ISD action was offered by the team, multidisciplinary residents in health care for people with disabilities and students of the master's degree in neuroengineering linked to their units that develop activities in the areas of education, maternal and child health and people with disabilities, neurosciences and neuroengineering in the municipality of Maca\u00edba: Anita Garibaldi Health Education and Research Center (CEPS)<\/strong><\/a> and the Edmond and Lily Safra International Institute of Neuroscience (IIN-ELS)<\/strong><\/a>.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

Visibility for people with Cerebral Palsy<\/strong><\/h3>

Some people with CP took advantage of the adapted Zumba class. Others, like the young woman Raiana Eliziane<\/strong> (larger photo above), 25 years old, listened attentively to the explanations of June Alves<\/strong>, a master's student in neuroengineering, on how the brain sends stimuli to the spine to control the body's movements. All the activities were designed so that the public could have more information about this health condition, which causes permanent neurological changes, affecting the patient's motor and\/or cognitive development and causing limitations in routine activities. This is the most common disability in childhood and approximately 17 million people worldwide have Cerebral Palsy.<\/p>

At the end of the action, Ivan Baronn<\/strong>, who has a PC and is an activist for the rights of people with disabilities, declared: \u201cI think events like this are very important, because they give more visibility to our fight for more rights\u201d.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

The event was promoted by Cerebral Palsy Association\/RN <\/strong>and the ISD had the support of UFRN<\/strong><\/a>, Maca\u00edba Sports and Leisure Department<\/strong><\/a> It is Neurinho Association<\/strong><\/a>, in addition to having received donations of seedlings from the project team Eco Square<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0which were distributed especially on that occasion.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t
