The Edmond and Lily Safra International Institute of Neuroscience, from the Santos Dumont Institute (ISD), exceeded the production of 500 'shield masks' to combat the coronavirus<\/a> in Rio Grande do Norte.<\/span><\/p>

The masks are produced for donation to hospitals \u2013 and work continues at full steam in the laboratory, as shown in a report published in the newspaper RN no AR, on TV Tropical, this Wednesday (08) \u2013 c<\/span>Click to watch the report here or on ISD YouTube channel<\/a>.<\/span><\/p>

Researchers and students of the Institute's master's degree in neuroengineering take turns on the equipment production line, considered essential to protect health professionals who treat cases of coronavirus and other serious cases, but which \u2013 due to high demand with the disease affecting the world \u2013 are in missing on the market.<\/p>

The work started a week ago and there is no end date. The masks are being donated to hospitals in Natal and the Metropolitan Region, but have also reached more distant municipalities, such as A\u00e7u and Riachuelo. Other municipalities, such as N\u00edsia Floresta, Ielmo Marinho and Santo Ant\u00f4nio are on the list of those that also presented a demand.<\/p>

The 'shield mask', also called 'face shield', uses acetate as raw material and has a support made with plastic filament produced in 3D printers. The mold was assembled based on the opinion of doctors and nurses to ensure the safety and comfort of professionals.<\/p>

The donation is institutional, that is, it is not made directly from ISD to individuals. For this reason, it is the director of the interested institution who must contact the Institute (via email covid19@isd.org.br).<\/p>
