Two videos produced by the Santos Dumont Institute (ISD) are competing to be shown at Exhibition \u201cScience and the Covid-19 Pandemic\u201d<\/a>, organized by the Brazilian Society for the Advancement of Science (SBPC). The Exhibition is part of the activities of SBPC Jovem, part of the virtual and extended version of the 72nd Annual Meeting of the SBPC, and received entries from several states in Brazil. Of the 27 universities and educational and research institutions participating, seven \u2013 including ISD \u2013 are from the Northeast region, the majority in the competition.<\/span><\/p>

In total, 58 videos will compete for screening at the Exhibition. Three of them will be chosen by a jury selected by the SBPC and the other nine will be chosen by public vote, extended from November 20 to 24 at SBPC YouTube channel<\/a>. Voting will be done by \u201cliking\u201d videos. To vote, you must be logged into YouTube to \u201clike\u201d your favorite videos \u2013 an option available next to the share button. <\/span><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t

The 9 videos most liked by the public and the 3 selected by the jury will be released on SBPC channels on November 25th. The winners will also participate in presentation and chat sessions during the week that ends the 72nd Annual Meeting of the SBPC, between December 1st and 5th, 2020.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

Among the competing teaching and research institutions are the Federal University of Rio Grande do Norte (UFRN), the Oswaldo Cruz Institute (Fiocruz), the Brazilian Academy of Sciences, the University of S\u00e3o Paulo, the Federal University of Pernambuco (UFPE), PUC-MG and the Covid-19 Observatory in Brazil.<\/span><\/p>

ISD Videos<\/strong><\/p>

The videos \u201c<\/span>Coronavirus: how to sanitize food and packaging<\/span><\/a>\u201d (which can be accessed at this address: <\/span>https:\/\/bit.ly\/youtubevideo1_ISDxCovid19<\/span><\/a>) and \u201c<\/span>ISD Explains: Breathing difficulties that are warning signs of the disease<\/span><\/a>\u201d (available here: <\/span>https:\/\/bit.ly\/youtubevideo2_ISDxCovid19<\/span><\/a>), with which the Santos Dumont Institute competes, were produced by students of the Multiprofessional Residency in Health Care for People with Disabilities, of the Anita Garibaldi Center for Education and Research in Health, of the ISD, with supervision from Anita's multiprofessional preceptors.<\/span><\/p>

For Camila Sim\u00e3o, physiotherapist, multidisciplinary preceptor and coordinator of the \u201cCovid-19 Committee\u201d at Anita\/ISD \u2013 one of the three committees created to work on priority demands in the service in relation to the pandemic \u2013 the challenge was faced with determination by the residents, who produced the videos while working remotely. \u201cOur goal was to inform the population at a time when there were many doubts about Covid-19, encouraging people to take the necessary precautions and teaching them to recognize possible symptoms. This mission was embraced by our residents who learned a new skill, since producing videos like these was not part of the knowledge of most of them\u201d, says Camila.<\/span><\/p>

The video production process took into account several nuances of the beginning of the pandemic and the accessibility of the content \u2013 which was subtitled and, the two now registered in the SBPC exhibition, had translation into sign language. The most relevant topics were chosen and discussed jointly by preceptors and students, through working groups of the Covid-19 Commission, and also considered the most frequent questions of the public served by Anita.<\/span><\/p>

\u201cWe highlighted the importance of talking about the issue of food and packaging hygiene, which was something necessary and about which there was not much information circulating. The video about respiratory symptoms was made with many of our patients in mind, such as children, people with disabilities or spinal cord injuries who would need to have caregivers and family members who were well informed about the situation in order to identify possible symptoms,\u201d explains the physiotherapist.<\/span><\/p>

ISD x Covid-19<\/b><\/p>

Since the pandemic was declared by the World Health Organization (WHO) in March 2020, students, researchers and preceptors at the Santos Dumont Institute have joined forces in a collective effort to respond to society's demands, ranging from protective masks, produced and donated to protect teams in health units, to the production of videos, brochures, arts and science to show the population possible ways to get through this moment, take care of their physical and mental health, report violence and make decisions in this context.<\/span><\/p>

At Anita, three committees were created to work on specific lines of service. The Psychology Committee, focused on psychological support, was tasked with taking care of the mental health of professionals and users. The Social Service Committee, in turn, was responsible for discussing people's rights during the pandemic. And the Covid-19 Committee, which brought together residents and preceptors from speech therapy, physical therapy, and occupational therapy and nutrition professionals to work on specific issues related to combating the pandemic, had the mission of generating accessible information for users and the community in general during this period.<\/span><\/p>

The ISD also underwent an unprecedented adaptation in services during the pandemic, when Anita began to temporarily operate as an emergency room for suspected cases of Covid-19 and lower-risk emergencies in pregnant women and children.<\/span><\/p>

Other work fronts were the fight against false information, through official and scientific information gathered by students of the Master's degree in Neuroengineering, and the production of shield masks at the Edmond and Lily Safra International Institute of Neuroscience (IIN-ELS) for donation to health units in Para\u00edba and Rio Grande do Norte.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

Strategies such as the adoption of telehealth care to maintain incentives for patients undergoing rehabilitation, online awareness about sexual abuse and exploitation during the isolation period, and a telephone line open to the public for psychological and emotional support were also adopted.<\/span><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

ISD Explains - Breathing difficulties that are warning signs of Covid<\/h3>

The symptoms of #COVID-19, the new #coronavirus, can be similar to those of a common cold or have the potential for severe pneumonia. Fever accompanied by cough, chest pain or difficulty breathing are among the possible warning signs of the disease - and people with "shortness of breath" are advised by the Ministry of Health to seek hospital treatment to have their case investigated and receive the care they need. But how can we differentiate possible breathing difficulties caused by COVID-19 from those caused by other diseases? And what signs should parents or caregivers of children and other people who cannot explain what they are feeling be aware of? The topic is addressed in this video, the first in a series prepared by preceptors and students of the Multiprofessional Residency in Healthcare for People with Disabilities - from the Santos Dumont Institute (ISD) - with guidelines for education in the context of the pandemic. Coronavirus: How to sanitize food and packaging<\/h3>

Did you know that in addition to sanitizing your hands, it is important to wash food and packaging thoroughly as a preventive measure against the new #coronavirus? In this video, preceptors and students of the Multiprofessional Residency in Healthcare for People with Disabilities, developed by the Santos Dumont Institute (ISD), teach how to do this. The information is based on nutritional guidelines for dealing with Covid-19, from the Federal University of Rio Grande do Norte (UFRN), as well as the Brazilian Diabetes Society, the International Society for Immunonutrition, the Brazilian Nutrition Association and the World Health Organization (WHO). \n<\/p><\/div><\/div>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t
