O Research Ethics Committee<\/a> of the Santos Dumont Institute (CEP\/ISD) officially launched its activities this Friday (27), with the evaluation of the first three research projects on human beings submitted for analysis by the body.<\/p>

On the discussion agenda were proposals with different focuses, one of them related to Covid-19<\/a>.
\u201cThis is an investigation into a technique to assist in the treatment of people infected by the disease\u201d, says the Committee\u2019s deputy coordinator, Lilian Lira Lisboa. The other two researches include the development of a device to assist the movements of patients who have suffered a stroke and the assessment of psychological aspects of children with neurogenic bladder.<\/p>

The CEP\/ISD is a deliberative, consultative and educational body, created in February this year and registered by the National Research Ethics Commission (Conep) on September 28.<\/p>

In the first evaluation meeting, 13 referees, as the Committee members are called, participated. \u201cThe group includes professionals from different areas of the Institute's team and a user representative, as required by Conep and overseen by the Committee, to assess the vulnerability of research participants as members of society\u201d, adds Lilian Lisboa.<\/p>

The next CEP meeting is scheduled for December 11th. The body's service is accessible to all researchers, that is, the Committee's objective is to pronounce, from an ethical aspect, on all research work carried out with human beings in the Edmond and Lily Safra International Institute of Neuroscience<\/a> and in Anita Garibald Health Education and Research Center<\/a>i, from the Santos Dumont Institute, but is also able to analyze work carried out in any other institutions.<\/p>
