The first edition of<\/span> Applied Biomechanics Symposium<\/span><\/a> from the Federal University of Lavras (UFLA\/MG) will feature the participation of professors-researchers and a student from the Santos Dumont Institute (ISD) to talk about neuroengineering, artificial intelligence, robotics in human rehabilitation and other technology solutions applied to health. The event, organized by the study center in Biomechanics Applied to Human Rehabilitation, <\/span>will take place from June 7th to 11th and will be completely online and free of charge. The professor-researcher, research coordinator and manager of the Edmond and Lily Safra International Institute of Neurosciences, at ISD, Edgard Morya, the professor-researcher and coordinator of the Master's in Neuroengineering at the Institute, Fabr\u00edcio Lima Brasil, and the mechanical engineer and master's student in neuroengineering Mouhamed Zorkot will be the representatives of the Northeast at the Symposium and will participate in lectures over the three days of the event, which focuses on <\/span>production of knowledge in technology for the construction of intelligent systems, aimed at human adaptation and accessibility.<\/span><\/p>

Rehabilitation\u00a0<\/b><\/p>

For future neuroengineer Mouhamed Zorkot, who will speak at the event about \u201cRobotic equipment and Artificial Intelligence in human rehabilitation\u201d, the Applied Biomechanics Symposium seeks to give visibility to work involving health and technology, which are part of the Institute's work.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

\u201cThe goal is to share knowledge and talk about our experiences with existing technologies so that healthcare professionals can help paraplegic patients, those who have suffered a stroke, or those who need prosthetic limbs. It is also to show students who are interested in pursuing a career in neuroengineering the innovations we have developed and what is currently on the market. Therefore, the event reaches many audiences and is an opportunity to present the work done by ISD,\u201d he said.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

Research conducted at ISD by professors, researchers and students \u2013 including Mouhamed \u2013 uses artificial intelligence to develop robotic systems that assist in human rehabilitation. According to the master's student, such research aims to help people who have mobility difficulties caused by diseases such as spinal cord injury and stroke.<\/span><\/p>

Lectures<\/b><\/p>

Professors-researchers Edgard Morya and Fabr\u00edcio Brasil will lead the lectures on the themes \u201c<\/span>Neuroengineering: opportunities, research, innovation and development\u201d and \u201cBrain-machine interface, neuromodulation, assistive technology, simple solutions for health\u201d, respectively.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

Other lectures on topics such as \u201cArtificial intelligence system to aid decision-making in screening and diagnosis of COVID-19 patients\u201d and \u201cComputational intelligence applied to breast cancer detection\u201d are also part of the Symposium program.
