The Santos Dumont Institute (ISD) is one of 12 institutions selected throughout Brazil as finalists for the 1st Edition of the Viver Sem Limites Award, from the Ministry of Health. The actions developed by the ISD through the Anita Garibaldi Center for Education and Research in Health (Anita) and the Edmond and Lily Safra International Institute of Neurosciences (IIN-ELS), in Maca\u00edba (RN), were detailed in a video that competed with 94 other productions from all over the country.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

The results of the first phase of the awards were announced on Thursday night (11\/25) on the Ministry of Health website. Of the 12 candidates currently competing, five will be announced as winners by the ministerial body on December 8, in a ceremony broadcast live from Bras\u00edlia.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

\u201cThis action to recognize the work developed by ISD has a very special meaning, as it is capable of bringing us even closer to society. The national dimension that this initiative assumes strengthens an entire care network that must be better known, understood and valued by every citizen of our country. There is a lot of love, dedication and hope in the work that we decided to take on as a mission and we are very happy with this result that we already consider an important victory\u201d, declared the general director of ISD, Reginaldo Freitas Jr..<\/span><\/p>

\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

The 94 videos submitted were analyzed by an Evaluation Committee made up of technicians and guests from the Department of Specialized and Thematic Care (DAET\/SAES). The members evaluated experiences that included early detection and rehabilitation of disabilities, qualification of the Unified Health System (SUS), access and regulation, organization of the network during the pandemic and post-COVID rehabilitation. The evaluation took into account criteria such as the capacity to produce improvements in access, creativity and innovation, alignment with health care policies and capacity to respond to crises.<\/span><\/p>

\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

The ISD is part of the Health Care Network for People with Disabilities as a Specialized Rehabilitation Center (CNES No. 6058256), authorized by the Ministry of Health in the Physical, Intellectual and Hearing modalities \u2013 CER III, through Ordinance\/GM\/ MS No. 1,430, of October 17, 2016, for the Seventh Health Region of the State of Rio Grande do Norte (Metropolitan Region), covering the municipalities of Maca\u00edba, Natal, Parnamirim, S\u00e3o Gon\u00e7alo do Amarante and Extremoz. Ordinance\/GM\/MS No. 1,842, of August 6, 2021, formalized the change of category of the Specialized Rehabilitation Center, from CER III to CER IV, including qualification to serve people with visual impairments.<\/span><\/p>

\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

CER ISD's actions incorporate the joint work of ANITA and IIN-ELS, prioritizing the integration of health care for people with disabilities with teaching and translational research activities, as well as the integration of teaching, service and community. All actions are agreed upon with different levels of SUS management to fill gaps in care and build responses to social demands.<\/span><\/p>

CER ISD's activities are organized by areas of activity and specialized clinics, aimed at users of the Seventh Health Region of Rio Grande do Norte, with some of them having statewide coverage. The clinics are as follows: Parkinson's Disease; Adult Spinal Cord Injury; Child Spinal Cord Injury; Microcephaly; Prematurity; Neurodevelopment; Neurogenic Bladder; Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD); Refractory Epilepsies and Hearing Health.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>
