Children and adolescents are at the heart of the activities of the Santos Dumont Institute (ISD). Aligned with the purposes of facilitating social inclusion and improving the quality of user service, the Institute promoted, on October 24 and 25, two events through the care lines of the Specialized Rehabilitation Center (CER ISD), which are the celebration of Children's Day and the meeting alluding to the World Spina Bifida Day.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

The events had the partnership of associations, educational institutions and the private sector, with the objective of expanding the work carried out at the ISD and collectively addressing the different perspectives on health education and care for people with disabilities. In addition, both meetings promoted the active participation of CER ISD users and their families.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

ISD Children's Day<\/b><\/p>

Who attended the Children's Day, held on the 24th, was Vila do Brincar. The institution, which offers services aimed at Early Childhood, was part of the program with games, games and workshops. The action, full of interactivity and creativity, provided fun moments that can be replicated at home by parents and children.\u00a0<\/p>

\u00a0<\/p>

For Adna Souza, specialist in psychomotricity and director of Vila do Brincar, \u201cplaying\u201d is essential for child development. \u201cIt is the act of the child in motion, in activity, in exploration, which transforms experience into knowledge. Our intention is to show that this methodology is fundamental for children to have someone at home who values their potential to develop, think and create\u201d, says Adna.\u00a0<\/p>

\u00a0<\/p>

Stimulating the child's interaction with the environment and with other people, and thus enabling playful moments, are practices adopted in the care lines of CER ISD. Autonomy is a fundamental characteristic for the process that seeks social inclusion based on clinical care, especially for children with disabilities.\u00a0<\/p>

\u00a0<\/p>

This is how Cileide, Benjamim's mother, one of the CER ISD users present at the event, noticed the evolution in the development of her 5-year-old son's social and communication skills. \u201cHe had a significant breakthrough. This differentiated service is very important, we observe that he developed the interaction, which he did not do. From the moment we make these living spaces available, we allow him to organize himself and learn internally\u201d, says Cileide.\u00a0<\/p>

\u00a0<\/p>

World Spina Bifida Day<\/b><\/p>

Spina bifida is a set of congenital malformations that develop in the baby in the first days of pregnancy. World Spina Bifida Day is celebrated annually on the 25th of October and seeks to raise awareness of the condition, which can lead to complications such as impaired motor function and changes in bladder and neurogenic bowel function. The ISD has a specific line of care aimed at people with spina bifida and was present on the date.\u00a0<\/p>

\u00a0<\/p>

The event, open to the public, took place at Parque das Dunas and brought together ISD preceptors, residents and researchers in a space with several thematic stands that aimed to bring the general public knowledge about treatment possibilities and research carried out in the area.<\/p>

\u00a0<\/p>

One of the partners in the action was Neurinho, an association founded by parents of children with neurological pathologies. Joelma Neuma, president of the association, reinforces the importance of institutional relationships in the fight for more visibility of people with disabilities, especially considering that partnerships bring the possibility of intensifying social inclusion actions. \u201cTaking therapy beyond the walls of clinical care is very interesting, because it helps fulfill our mission, which is to show society that people with disabilities exist and have basic rights just like anyone else\u201d, he reinforces.\u00a0<\/p>

The Federal University of Rio Grande do Norte (UFRN) and Coloplast, a medical device and services company, were also partners in the action.\u00a0<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

An important and indispensable point present in both actions was the integration of the ISD with users and their families. The promotion of activities outside the hours and place of care provides not only an improvement in the development of users, perceived by the health professionals of the CER ISD, but also the strengthening of personal relationships within the homes reached by the service.<\/p>

\u00a0<\/p>

For Andrezza Viana, resident in physiotherapy at ISD, moments of interaction like this strengthen the bonds between the professional and the user and also bring families closer together. Providing a relationship space is important for sharing experiences and integrating the family member at all times. \u201cHealth goes far beyond the physical, than what we rehabilitate there in the service. Professionals need to turn their attention to these other dimensions of health\u201d, he adds.\u00a0<\/p>
