The Santos Dumont Institute (ISD) launched, this Friday, June 30, a call for submission of projects for the first edition of the Young Scientists Program \u2013 Science, Technology and Innovation for Global Challenges. The program is aimed at public high school and technical school students in Maca\u00edba, in Rio Grande do Norte, with the aim of stimulating the development of viable solutions to global challenges and expanding spaces for young people in science. Six of the submitted projects will be chosen for presentation at the IX Neuroengineering Symposium, which will take place between October 16 and 19, 2023 at the International Institute of Neurosciences Edmond and Lily Safra (IIN-ELS), one of the ISD headquarters in Maca\u00edba. In addition, among these proposals presented, three will be selected for mentoring with ISD research professors, during the 20th National Week of Science and Technology. <\/span><\/p>

\u201cThe program aims to mobilize young people in the region to actively participate in scientific production, and understand from an early age the importance of the social role of science and research in solving problems. We hope that it will also be an incentive to awaken the interest of these students in a professional future as scientists\u201d, explains professor and researcher Carolina Gonzalez, organizing member of the Young Scientists Program. <\/span><\/p>


<\/span><\/p>\n

Submissions can have up to two faculty advisors (who can be from different areas and classes, but from the same school) and from three to six students on the team (who can be from different classes and grades, but must be from the same school). Enrollment must be made exclusively through the online form, by one of the professors, with the consent of those responsible for students under 18 years of age. Submitted projects do not have to be just from the field of Neuroengineering: they can involve <\/span>United Nations Sustainable Development Goals<\/span><\/a>. <\/span><\/p>

Enrolled works will be initially evaluated by the scientific committee of the Young Scientists Program, based on the criteria set out in the public notice. The disclosure of the six semifinalist papers, chosen for presentation at the IX Neuroengineering Symposium, is scheduled for October 6th. The three finalist projects selected for mentoring will be chosen through a vote by the public participating in the IX Neuroengineering Symposium. <\/span><\/p>

The three groups selected in the final phase will also be awarded with a mini-course at ISD, on several predefined themes, which may be chosen by the finalist groups. In addition, the outstanding students may be invited to develop scientific and technological research activities as Junior Scientific Initiation at ISD. All six semi-finalist works will receive a certificate of participation.<\/span><\/p>
