The board of directors of the Santos Dumont Institute (ISD), a Social Organization linked to the Ministry of Education located in Maca\u00edba (RN), presented this Wednesday morning (28) the annual report on the execution of the management contract to the institution's Board of Directors. On the occasion, the actions carried out throughout 2023 in the two units of the institute, the Anita Garibaldi Center for Education and Health Research (Anita) and the Edmond and Lily Safra International Institute of Neuroengineering (IIN-ELS), were detailed.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The report contains the performance targets and indicators achieved by ISD in 2023, which will be assessed by the Management Contract Monitoring Committee established by the MEC, in addition to the financial statements analyzed by independent auditors. All points were unanimously approved by the board members, who attended the meeting virtually.<\/span><\/p>\n

Of the 11 current indicators analyzed in the management contract, the ISD achieved the target agreed with the Ministry of Education in nine in 2023, with a tendency to partially achieve the other two. Among the items evaluated are the success rate of the master's program in neuroengineering; the occupancy of the facilities by external researchers; and continuing education practices in health.<\/span><\/p>\n

The Chairman of the Board of Directors, Theodoro Paraschiva, highlighted that the performance followed the trend seen in recent years and recognized the collective effort to maintain the rates within or close to the target stipulated in the management contract.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cOnce again, the institute demonstrated that it surpassed almost all of its proposed goals. Of course, there are some that were not achieved, because when all goals are easily met, it means that there is no longer a challenge, and that is what the goals are for, they show what we came here for, what the Institute is for\u201d, pondered Theodoro.<\/span><\/p>\n

The report was presented by ISD\u2019s CEO, Reginaldo Freitas Jr., and its administrative director, Jovan Gadioli. The directors took the opportunity to formally invite the committee to attend the event to commemorate the institute\u2019s tenth anniversary as a social organization. \u201cThis event is being planned with the main premise of reporting to society on what has happened over the past ten years, and what ISD has delivered for society,\u201d explained CEO Reginaldo Freitas.<\/span><\/p>\n

The full 2023 annual report will be made available to the general public at a later date. In addition to the financial report, the document also celebrates the 10th anniversary of the creation of the ISD's postgraduate program in Neuroengineering, the first in the area to be recognized by the Coordination for the Improvement of Higher Education Personnel (Capes).\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Over the course of a decade, 112 neuroengineers have received their master's degrees from the Santos Dumont Institute, of which more than 901 are working in the job market or academia after graduating. The program has also contributed to Brazilian scientific development, with the publication of new studies in international journals focused primarily on improving the population's quality of life through research guided by brain understanding. <\/span>and innovation in health technologies<\/span>.<\/span><\/p>\n

New advisors<\/b><\/p>\n

During Wednesday's meeting, two new members were also added to the ISD Board of Directors. These were nominations made by the National Confederation of Industries (CNI) and the Ministry of Education (MEC), replacing previously appointed representatives.<\/span><\/p>\n

The CNI has appointed Roberto Pinto Serquiz Elias as the new president of the Federation of Industries of Rio Grande do Norte (Fiern). He takes over the position previously held by the former president of Fiern, Amaro Sales de Ara\u00fajo, who left the position in October of last year. Sequiz is a businessman in the mineral water and recycling sectors.<\/span><\/p>\n

The Ministry of Education has appointed Denise Pires de Carvalho as the new president of Capes. She replaces the former president of the coordination, Mercedes Maria da Cunha Bustamante. Denise was the rector of the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro and is a full professor at the Carlos Chagas Filho Institute of Biophysics (UFRJ).<\/span><\/p>\n

The following people participated in the meeting: Reginaldo Freitas Jr., ISD general director; Jovan Gadioli dos Santos, ISD administrative director; Lilian Lira Lisboa, Anita manager; and Eduardo Frare, ISD project coordinator. In addition to them, the following council members were present: George Dantas; Theodoro Paraschiva (also representing council member Jos\u00e9 Luiz Set\u00fabal); F\u00e1bio Lorotonda; Francisco Vignoli and Laerte Guimar\u00e3es; and the invited listeners F\u00e1tima Rodrigues Fernandes and Thiago Almeida.<\/span><\/p>\n
