Last Sunday (14), five patients from the parasports care line at the Instituo Santos Dumont (ISD) were medalists at the Loterias Caixa Paralympic Meeting, in the Jo\u00e3o Pessoa\/PB and Belo Horizonte\/MG stages. The competition has been held by the Brazilian Paralympic Committee (CPB) since 2021 and this year has stages held in all Brazilian capitals.<\/span><\/p>\n

The ISD competitors won, in total, two gold and three silver medals, all in the sport shooting modality, and celebrated the successful result. \u201cIt was a unique feeling, the first time competing and it was already a gold\u201d, describes the medalist Oneill Andrews Ferreira da Silva Filho, winner in the 10m pistol category.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The feeling of duty accomplished was also shared by Catiane Deise, who won second place in the 10m pistol category. \u201cFor me it was a unique experience that we had the opportunity, right away, to bring the silver medal to my city\u201d, celebrated the para-athlete.<\/span><\/p>\n

Under treatment for osteomyelitis and an ISD patient for seven months, J\u00falio C\u00e9sar also reached the top of the podium in the capital of Para\u00edba. He considers that getting to know the Institute is among the main changes that have happened in his life in the last 12 years, since he was diagnosed with multiple myeloma, a spinal tumor that was treated with chemotherapy and a bone marrow transplant.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cA year and a half ago I was hospitalized, had surgery and spent almost a year in bed. So, here at Anita the doors opened, I met important people in my life, I went to train and get the gold to represent ISD and Rio Grande do Norte. Today I am another person, completely different\u201d, he says.<\/span><\/p>\n

In the Belo Horizonte stage, among 15 shooting competitors, the para-athlete and ISD scientific initiation student, Pablo Ferreira, came second in the 10m rifle category, alongside Ricardo Alexandre, who also won silver in the category 10m with pistol.<\/span><\/p>\n

With the aim of promoting the development of sports in municipalities and states, the Paralympic Meeting seeks technical improvement and competition opportunities for athletes in athletics, swimming, weightlifting, boccia, archery and sports shooting.<\/span><\/p>\n

The 2024 season started in February and has already passed through Porto Alegre\/RS, Rio Branco\/AC, Florian\u00f3polis\/SC, Porto Velho\/RO, Curitiba\/PR, Cuiab\u00e1\/MT, Salvador\/BA, Campo Grande\/MS, Goi\u00e2nia\/GO, Aracaju\/SE, Recife\/PE and Palmas\/TO. The next stages are scheduled for April 27th in Natal\/RN and Vit\u00f3ria\/ES.<\/span><\/p>\n

ISD promotes parasports activities for users of CER ISD care lines in weekly meetings, held in partnership with Maca\u00edba City Hall. The Institute carries out courses, training actions and events on the topic, involving physical educators, professionals from other health areas, CER users and their families.<\/span><\/p>\n

Paralympic Reference Center<\/b><\/p>\n

The ISD\/Maca\u00edba Paralympic Reference Center is accredited by the Brazilian Paralympic Committee (CPB). Currently, bocce and para-athletics are offered free of charge to adults and children aged 7 and over. Training ranges from sports initiation to high performance.<\/span><\/p>\n

After making an appointment, interested people undergo a remote screening followed by a global assessment, when the eligibility criteria for the modalities offered at the Institute are verified.
