Elementary school students from the Alfredo Mesquita Filho Rural Education Center (CERU), a public school in Maca\u00edba, were honored for the results of scientific projects developed at the Santos Dumont Institute (ISD). The honor took place at a ceremony held this Friday (6) by the Municipal Department of Education of Maca\u00edba, with the presence of local authorities and representatives of the Institute. On the occasion, the students received medals, certificates and educational books in public recognition of the relevance of the work performed.<\/span><\/p>\n

The projects that motivated the ceremony were presented during the ISD Science Fair and Scientific Exhibitions, an event integrated into the programming of the 21st National Science and Technology Week (SNCT), which is promoted annually by the Institute in partnership with the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation (MCTI) and CNPq.<\/span>
\n<\/span>
\n<\/span>The students from CERU, located in the rural district of Tra\u00edras, conceived the projects in tutorials organized by students from the ISD's Postgraduate Program in Neuroengineering, who instructed them on the characteristics and basic stages of science and on how to develop research projects. During the Fair, which took place on October 16, 17 and 18, the students presented the results of the ideas they formulated.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The work included practical experiments focused on basic scientific notions, such as a battery made with potatoes, and research on topics chosen by the students, which addressed themes such as women in science and the history of Augusto Severo from Maca\u00edba and aviation.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cIt is gratifying, because the work we do in the classroom is recognized and honored, and I think this initiative is really cool. I will definitely be at the next Fair,\u201d says Juliane Aquino, one of the honored students, who took part in the \u201cCartesian Plane\u201d project at the ISD Science Fair.<\/span><\/p>\n

Present at the tribute were the manager of the Edmond and Lily Safra International Institute of Neuroscience (IIN-ELS), Edgard Morya, the research professors Carolina Gonzalez and Andressa Radiske, who also organize the activities of the National Science and Technology Week at ISD, professor Maria Luzinete Lima, who guided and accompanied the students from Tra\u00edras in the projects, and the secretary of education of Maca\u00edba, Ademar Teixeira da Silva J\u00fanior, among other municipal authorities, in addition to teachers from the municipal network.<\/span><\/p>\n

At the event, Secretary Ademar Teixeira J\u00fanior reinforced the importance of the institutional partnership between Maca\u00edba and the ISD. \u201cThis is a moment for us to recognize the students who stood out this year and to recognize the importance of these innovative and successful projects carried out by schools together with the Santos Dumont Institute,\u201d said the representative of the municipality.<\/span><\/p>\n

For teachers Andressa Radiske and Carolina Gonzalez, coordinators of the Science Fair and Scientific Exhibitions, recognition is extremely important for students and is seen as a motivation to continue on the path of education and science.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cFor us, this recognition is even more significant, as it shows that we are, in fact, positively impacting the lives of these students and encourages us to continue our work of popularizing science during the SNCT, further reinforcing our commitment to society,\u201d says researcher Andressa Radiske.<\/span><\/p>\n
