Breno Brasileiro, a master's student in the Neuroengineering Graduate Program (PPGN) at the Santos Dumont Institute (ISD), has been selected for an internship at the Laboratory of Electron Microscopy and Musculoskeletal Dysfunctions at the University of S\u00e3o Paulo (USP), in S\u00e3o Paulo\/SP.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

The main objective of this voluntary internship is to deepen knowledge of advanced scanning and transmission electron microscopy techniques, which can reveal the texture and relief of samples in 2D and 3D, as well as provide nanometric details of the materials analyzed.<\/span><\/p>

\u201cIn practice, it will be a chance to have direct contact, both in theory and in practice, with the operation of this equipment, in addition to learning the main steps for making slides and analyzing biological tissues,\u201d explains Breno.<\/span><\/p>

Over the course of two weeks, under the supervision of Professor Diego Cury, affiliated with USP, the ISD master's student will participate in activities such as the preparation of biological samples and material for immunocytochemical techniques, the observation of samples directly under a microscope, and the capture of high-resolution images for documentation and use in research.<\/span><\/p>

At ISD, Breno, a graduate in Physical Education, works under the guidance of research professor Felipe Fiuza on studies that routinely utilize microscopy. At the Institute, the techniques used include conventional bright-field and fluorescence microscopy, as well as confocal microscopy. By learning new techniques, the expectation for the internship is to strengthen the research project and scientific knowledge in general.<\/span><\/p>

\u201cI hope to consolidate my training and expand skills that can be directly applied to the ISD research lines I am part of. This internship is a window of opportunity to deepen my knowledge of microscopy and incorporate these methods into future research,\u201d says Breno.<\/span><\/p>

Master's in Neuroengineering<\/span><\/p>

The ISD's Postgraduate Program in Neuroengineering aims to strengthen interdisciplinary research lines in neuroscience and neuroengineering, offering places for students in the fields of health, exact sciences, biological sciences, and engineering. The studies developed at ISD range from basic to clinical and translational research, contributing scientific foundations and taking innovations from the laboratory bench to applications in real-world rehabilitation contexts.\u00a0<\/p>

The Master's program in Neuroengineering at ISD is currently accepting applications for the first semester of 2026.
