{"id":35358,"date":"2026-06-15T17:03:34","date_gmt":"2026-06-15T20:03:34","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/institutosantosdumont.org.br\/?p=35358"},"modified":"2026-06-15T17:03:34","modified_gmt":"2026-06-15T20:03:34","slug":"simposio-da-rede-de-cuidados-a-pessoa-com-deficiencia-do-nordeste-promove-dialogo-sobre-ampliacao-de-cuidado-especializado-e-fortalecimento-de-politicas-publicas","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/institutosantosdumont.org.br\/en\/simposio-da-rede-de-cuidados-a-pessoa-com-deficiencia-do-nordeste-promove-dialogo-sobre-ampliacao-de-cuidado-especializado-e-fortalecimento-de-politicas-publicas\/","title":{"rendered":"Symposium of the Northeast Network for the Care of People with Disabilities promotes dialogue on expanding specialized care and strengthening public policies."},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The challenges surrounding assistance for people with disabilities and the formulation of public policies aimed at this population were the subject of three days of debates and dialogues at the 1st Symposium of the Northeast Network for the Care of People with Disabilities, held on June 8, 9 and 10, in Natal and Maca\u00edba, Rio Grande do Norte.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Promoted by the Santos Dumont Institute (ISD), in partnership with the Ministry of Health and the State Secretariat of Public Health of Rio Grande do Norte, and with funding from the National Council for Scientific and Technological Development (CNPq), the event was attended by health, education and social assistance professionals, students, representatives from the Ministries of Health and Sports, users of health services and their families and caregivers.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The program for the meeting included lectures and roundtables on topics such as intersectorality, the leading role of people with disabilities in the development of public policies, governance and regionalization of the RCPD (Rehabilitation and Citizenship Program for People with Disabilities), inclusive education, and assistive technologies for rehabilitation. In addition, presentations and cultural showcases of theater, dance, music, and film highlighted the leading role of people with disabilities in multiple areas.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">According to Arthur Medeiros, General Coordinator of Health for People with Disabilities at the Ministry of Health, the event initiative contributes to strengthening and expanding the RCPD (Regional Network for People with Disabilities), in order to achieve the goal of integrating the network and advancing the quality of care.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">&quot;It is this collective construction, involving all states and services, coordination teams, and steering groups, that will ensure we have an implemented network that truly reaches and assists all people with disabilities who need this care,&quot; she states.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">By bringing together representatives from the northeastern states, the meeting provided an unprecedented space for dialogue about the different realities of the Network in the region. The exchange of experiences made it possible to highlight progress already achieved by the territories, as well as to identify opportunities to strengthen assistance and public policies aimed at people with disabilities.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">According to Lorenna Santiago, coordinator of the event and multidisciplinary physiotherapist preceptor at ISD, it is of utmost importance that the Northeast, one of the regions of the country with the highest rates of people with disabilities, hosted the meeting, strengthening the collective construction of solutions to challenges related to accessibility, inclusion, and qualified specialized care.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cThis event marks a very important moment for us to think not only about the gaps in the Network, but also about the strategies that the states of the Northeast have used to fill these gaps,\u201d says Lorenna.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>The event<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The holding of the 1st Northeast Symposium marks an important step in consolidating a collaborative network among the states of the region. \u201cThe Symposium was conceived with the objective of creating a space for the exchange of experiences, the collective construction of solutions to the challenges of the Network, and the strengthening of ties between the different territories. The Care Network for People with Disabilities has advanced, but still faces common challenges, such as access to and continuity of care, qualification of care, and the incorporation of technologies into the SUS (Brazilian Public Health System),\u201d highlights Lorenna Santiago, coordinator of the Symposium.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">On June 9th and 10th, the event&#039;s program will continue at the Edmond and Lily Safra International Institute of Neuroscience (IIN-ELS), an ISD unit in Maca\u00edba.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Symposium on the Care Network for People with Disabilities is promoted by the Santos Dumont Institute (ISD), in partnership with the Ministry of Health and the State Secretariat of Public Health of Rio Grande do Norte, with funding from the National Council for Scientific and Technological Development (CNPq).<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>About ISD<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Santos Dumont Institute (ISD) is a Social Organization of the Federal Executive Branch, supervised by the Ministry of Education, with the intervention of the Ministry of Sport.
