The initiative is carried out by the Santos Dumont Institute (ISD), with the support of the Municipality of Acari and the Public Ministry of Rio Grande do Norte (MPRN).

With a planned duration of one year, the training aims to qualify professionals, focusing on the early identification of possible alterations in milestones of child development and the organization of comprehensive care for children from 0 to 3 years of age, including support for neurodivergent children and the strengthening of welcoming and inclusion practices in the municipality.

“Acari will be a pioneering municipality in the idea of training health, education, and social service professionals to expand and enhance care in early childhood. The goal of the Seeds of Acari project is to ensure that child development occurs in the best possible way, reducing delays in early childhood, which occurs from 0 to 3 years of age,” highlighted Samantha Maranhão, coordinator of health education activities at ISD.

The first day of training was marked by a theoretical and practical immersion aimed at illustrating the centrality of play for development in the first three years of life. Divided into interdisciplinary groups, participants engaged in toy-making workshops using low-cost materials, designed to stimulate different forms of interaction and developmental stages of childhood.

The opening methodology introduced fundamental concepts aligned with global frameworks and the guidelines of the Ministry of Health, using the Maguerez Arc as a guiding axis to transform local health and education indicators into practical actions in the territory. “The ISD developed a continuing health education strategy based on problems identified by the municipal teams in their daily work. What is happening is exciting; we see people's eyes shining, realizing that they are the protagonists of this transformation, which began with observing their own reality,” stated Reginaldo Freitas Júnior, general director of the ISD.

The training plan totals 249 hours, distributed among in-person sessions, practical activities in the municipality, and synchronous tutorials. Over the next 12 months, the training will cover strategic areas including the qualified use of the Child's Health Record, the application of the M-CHAT-R/F instrument for screening warning signs of developmental delays in children, positive parenting practices, and the implementation of the Individual Therapeutic Project (PTS) as a guiding principle for the intersectoral protection network. “Our expectation is that at the end of these 12 months we will have a different reality for the children and for the health, education, and social service teams in the municipality of Acari,” projected Marineide Alves Dantas, Secretary of Health.

For the professionals who attended the inaugural class, the experience opened new horizons for their daily work in the municipality's health units and schools. "The most important thing is that we left the first day of training motivated to discover new possibilities for the development of our children through simple strategies to stimulate play. It will be a transformative training," celebrated Maruska Lucena, an early childhood education teacher.

About ISD

The Santos Dumont Institute (ISD) is a Social Organization of the Federal Executive Branch, supervised by the Ministry of Education, with the intervention of the Ministry of Sport.
