Between the 12th and 14th of May 2016, Natal received the <\/span>XI Regional Meeting of FeSBE (Federation of Societies of Experimental Biology)<\/strong>. Edgard Morya<\/strong>, research coordinator at the Edmond and Lily Safra International Institute of Neuroscience (IIN-ELS)<\/strong>, offered the course \u201cNeural processing in sensorimotor integration\u201d.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Edgard spoke about the lines of research currently being developed at IIN-ELS (neuromodulation and brain-machine interface) and showed examples of new approaches in neurorehabilitation. On the second day of the course, some resources of virtual reality applied to improving the quality of life of patients with spinal cord injury were shown.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Camila Pinho<\/strong>, student of the sixth period of Biomedicine UFPE and student of scientific initiation in the laboratory of\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

experimental neuropharmacology, saw in the course an opportunity to expand their knowledge and learn both aspects related to molecular biology and other models, which in the case of the course, she highlighted electroencephalography. The future biomedical\u00a0<\/span>she knew virtual reality works and said she was very admired, because she didn't know that there was a technology in which people could have the opportunity to experience sensations as if they were real.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Neurosurgeon and IIN-ELS researcher,\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/span>Hougelle Simplicio<\/b><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/strong>, ended the course talking about the theme: \u201cNeuroprostheses and sensory integration: Usefulness for the treatment of Parkinson's and new perspectives\u201d. Hougelle highlighted research with spinal cord stimulation for the treatment of motor symptoms of this disease and future prospects.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n
