The project of cinema sessions for autistic children, organized by the \u201cGrupo M\u00e3es Corujas Batalhadoras\u201d since 2016, is a success and for the second time the <strong>Santos Dumont Institute (ISD)<\/strong> supports the initiative through an internal campaign among its employees. With the mobilization of employees, it was possible to purchase tickets and take 50 people to the cinema, including children and guardians, who are users of the <strong>Multidisciplinary Autism Spectrum Care Service (SEMEA)<\/strong>, of <strong>Anita Garibaldi Health Education and Research Center (CEPS), in Maca\u00edba (RN)<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>Anthony Ferreira<\/strong>, aged 5, accompanied at CEPS for about a year and a half, went to the cinema for the first time in his life and according to his father, <strong>Antonio Ferreira<\/strong>, the boy approved the experience: \u201cIt was really good! He watched half the film and the other half he wanted to mess around.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_9867\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-9867\" style=\"width: 300px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><a href=\"https:\/\/institutosantosdumont.org.br\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017-abril-08-cinema-autistas-2-Foto-Ariane-Mondo-Ascom-ISD-8_editada.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-9867\" src=\"https:\/\/institutosantosdumont.org.br\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017-abril-08-cinema-autistas-2-Foto-Ariane-Mondo-Ascom-ISD-8_editada-225x300.jpg\" alt=\"2017 abril 08 cinema autistas 2 Foto Ariane Mondo - Ascom ISD (8)_editada\" width=\"300\" height=\"400\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-9867\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Murilo had difficulties at the beginning of the event, but after a while he managed to enter the cinema for the first time.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>Gabriela Vasconcelos Alves<\/strong>, mother of Murilo, 7 years old, also took her son to the cinema for the first time and joining the activity was not immediate. After waiting for some time and with patience, the boy was taken to the exhibition room and enjoyed the new experience. The mother reported: \u201cFor me, these sessions would be monthly, because it is a way of integrating him into society and showing what the world is like for this child, who will one day grow up\u201d.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>Samantha Maranh\u00e3o<\/strong>, multidisciplinary preceptor and neuropsychologist at SEMEA\/CEPS, states that this event is very good, because it is an opportunity for children to have contact with each other and experience a different space, because many people in Maca\u00edba do not have access to cinema. \u201cThe journey to get to Natal broadens these children\u2019s horizons and allows them to have different experiences beyond the context in which they are inserted,\u201d she says.<\/p>\n<p>The neuropsychologist sees several benefits in this type of activity, such as socialization, expanding experiences in different contexts and exchanging experiences between parents. She comments: \u201cMost of the children seen in Maca\u00edba were already here for the second time and those responsible commented that the children liked the second film they watched more. I think it could be an adaptation to the place, the situation, as they spent longer watching the film, living this experience. For them, it is important to repeat an experience that they don\u2019t always have.\u201d<\/p>\n<h4><strong>SEMEA<\/strong><\/h4>\n<figure id=\"attachment_9877\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-9877\" style=\"width: 270px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><a href=\"https:\/\/institutosantosdumont.org.br\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017-abril-08-cinema-autistas-2-Foto-Ariane-Mondo-Ascom-ISD-37_editada.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-9877\" src=\"https:\/\/institutosantosdumont.org.br\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017-abril-08-cinema-autistas-2-Foto-Ariane-Mondo-Ascom-ISD-37_editada-225x300.jpg\" alt=\"Samantha Maranh\u00e3o com uma das pacientes atendidas no SEMEA.\" width=\"270\" height=\"360\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-9877\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Samantha Maranh\u00e3o with one of the patients treated at SEMEA.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>SEMEA was created by CEPS in 2015 and offers care provided by professionals from various areas of health. Currently, SEMEA receives an average of 80 children from Maca\u00edba and neighboring municipalities and since 2017, through SUS, in partnership with the Escola Agr\u00edcola de Jundia\u00ed (EAJ\/UFRN), it has been offering <strong>Potiguar Riding Therapy<\/strong>, a project that uses horse therapy as a complementary possibility for monitoring children cared for at CEPS (more information in the article available <a href=\"https:\/\/institutosantosdumont.org.br\/en\/equoterapia-inicio-pacientes-ceps\/\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>HERE<\/strong><\/a>).<\/p>\n<p>The nomenclature Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) was given because today it is known that autism has different levels of intensity. The same symptom can occur in a severe, mild or moderate form, depending on the child&#039;s age, how much stimulation he or she receives and the appropriate intervention.
