Barriguda Project wins the international audience during event in Ireland

On 18 August 2018, Reginaldo Freitas Júnior, General Director of the Santos Dumont Institute (ISD), and Carolina Damásio, preceptor and doctor at ISD, received, in Limerick (Ireland), the prize of the “Projects that Work” competition, promoted by the Foundation for Advancement of International Medical Education and Research (Faimer), international institution committed to improving world health through education. The awards’ ceremony happened during the Conference The Network: Towards Unity For Health (TUFH). The other awarded projects of this year are: Shantharam Baliga (India), Maryellen Brisbois (USA) e María de la Paz Grebe (Argentina).

Beyond that, the presentation held during the event  – Promoting Maternal Health in a Quilombola Community  – was awarded as the best poster presentation of TUFH 2018. 

The multiprofessional team who developed the presentation is made by: Alexsandra CassianoAna Karla FreitasCarolina BarretoCarolina DamásioGeorge AzevedoLílian LisboaReginaldo Freitas Júnior and Samara Maia.

About the Barriguda Project

 

In 2015, ISD started the Barriguda project, through the Anita Garibaldi Center for Education and Research in Health (CEPS), in the Capoeiras Quilombola community, located in Macaíba (Brazilian Northeast). Since 2016 it has a direct interface with the Federal University of Rio Grande do Norte (UFRN), by means of the elective module for undergraduate health courses with the subject “Cultural Competence in Health Care for Quilombola Women”. Currently Barriguda is also an extension project of the UFRN.
