O Edmond and Lily Safra International Institute of Neuroscience (IIN-ELS) develops, since 2006, teaching, research and extension activities in Macaíba (RN), with the aim of training and qualifying professionals in research in Neurosciences It is neuroengineering.
In 2013, IIN-ELS created the first course in Master's in Neuroengineering in Brazil, recommended by Coordination for the Improvement of Higher Education Personnel (CAPES – 33280010001P2) in the field of Biomedical Engineering. ISD is an institutional member of Brazilian Society of Biomedical Engineering (SBEB).
The disciplines offered by the graduate program of the Edmond and Lily Safra International Institute of Neuroscience focus on two main thematic lines: brain-machine interface It is neuromodulation. The master's course receives students from all regions of Brazil. The entry of new master's students takes place twice a year, through public calls posted on the internet.
A neuroengineering It is an interdisciplinary research area that integrates neuroscience and engineering methods to study the functioning of the nervous system and develop solutions for limitations and dysfunctions associated with the nervous system. This emerging area encompasses aspects of experimental, computational, theoretical, clinical and applied research at molecular, cellular and systemic levels. The knowledge generated in these studies enables the development of technologies and applications ranging from neuroprostheses to the improvement of neuromodulation techniques with therapeutic potential. The works have behavioral, electrophysiological, histological and immunohistochemical approaches, combined with quantitative analysis methods.
