During the week of October 2nd to 6th, our units in Rio Grande do Norte (RN) received a visit from teachers and high school students from Colégio São Domingos, in São Paulo.
They, who are part of the research project The art of doing science, came to RN especially to learn about the work developed by the Santos Dumont Institute (ISD) in the areas of scientific education, health education, neuroscience research and neuroengineering.
Under the guidance of teachers Jose Matiello, Alaide Sousa It is Caio Ferrari, the young people were on a study visit in Science Education Centers (CECs) of Natal and Macaíba; in Anita Garibaldi Health Education and Research Center (CEPS); and in the Edmond and Lily Safra International Institute of Neuroscience (IIN-ELS), where they were welcomed by the respective teams for discussion and interactions. At CEPS, the visitors also participated in the ISD Colloquium project, which brings together, weekly, ISD professionals linked to research and health, to discuss the work carried out within the scope of the Institutional Programs.
This is not the first time that visitors from Colégio São Domingos have been to ISD: about five years ago, another delegation had already learned about the work carried out by ISD in RN. The group explained the reasons for returning in 2017: “This year, due to the clear interest of this group of students in discussions of a scientific nature and our faculty in expanding the debate on the curricular teaching of science in the school context, we rekindled the desire to “re-edit” our visit to one of the most advanced research centers in Latin America and the social projects of scientific education derived from it.”
The team further explained: “We reestablished our contacts with the (now) Santos Dumont Institute and Dora Montenegro, Director of the Scientific Education Centers, was quick to welcome us, giving us the opportunity to visit all the research and teaching units that make up the ISD today. And there we are, with our notebooks, insights and desires”, concludes the report described on the Colégio São Domingos website.
