The PPGN is a multidisciplinary program, created in 2013 and offered free of charge. It was recommended in 2013 by the Coordination for the Improvement of Higher Education Personnel (CAPES, 33280010001M2) in the Biomedical Engineering concentration area (CAPES Engenharias IV). The objectives of the PPGN are to generate scientific knowledge, promote science and train highly qualified professionals to work in the field of Neuroengineering.

The curricular structure of the master's course in Neuroengineering is composed of mandatory and optional subjects, qualification exam, development of the research project, elaboration and defense of the Dissertation. The structure was designed to overcome existing barriers between exact and biological graduations. The curriculum is made up of four mandatory disciplines – two exact sciences and two biology – totaling 16 credits (1 credit = 15 class hours). In addition, the student, with the consent of the advisor, must select and attend elective subjects or complementary academic activities totaling at least eight more credits. In addition to completing the course credits, the student must defend his/her dissertation, which will account for another 64 credits. The minimum duration of the master's degree is 12 months and a maximum of 24 months.

14 vacancies are offered, 11 of which are highly competitive, 1 for professors and employees of the Federal University of Rio Grande do Norte (UFRN) and 2 for graduates of the Multiprofessional Residency in Health Care for Persons with Disabilities at the Santos Dumont Institute (ISD).
