With the aim of expanding the field of multidisciplinary practices in the training of residents in Health Care for Persons with Disabilities, the Santos Dumont Institute (ISD) and the City of Parnamirim formalized an agreement so that residents of the Institute can carry out internships in basic and specialized health services in the municipality. Internships should begin in the second half of 2022, and all residents in the first year of the Multiprofessional Residency course in Health Care for People with Disabilities at ISD must go through the internship field in the municipality, which is part of the 7th Health Region, covered by the ISD Specialized Rehabilitation Center (CER ISD).
The signed agreement is initially valid for four years and can be renewed through Addendum Terms at the end of this period. Currently, ISD already has agreements with the municipality of Macaíba and health institutions located in Natal.
According to Samantha Maranhão, Coordinator of Health Teaching and Research Activities at ISD, in addition to allowing greater integration between the Institute and Parnamirim, the new internship field will also provide interaction between multidisciplinary residents and medical residents who already work at the County. “It has the advantage of having a Residency in Family and Community Medicine, so it is a possibility of integrating a multidisciplinary residency with a medical residency, reinforcing the multidisciplinary work in Family Health Strategies”, he highlights.
The first program in Brazil in the area of health care for people with disabilities, the ISD Residency Program combines teaching, research and extension, with a focus on strengthening the Care Network for People with Disabilities within the Unified Health System (SUS). The program encompasses four professional areas: Physiotherapy, Speech Therapy, Psychology and Social Work.
In addition to its own Multiprofessional Residency program, the Institute maintains agreements with five Medical Residency Programs (Gynecology and Obstetrics at the Januário Cicco Maternity School (MEJC); Gynecology, Obstetrics and Pediatrics at the Ana Bezerra University Hospital (HUAB), Neuropediatrics and Pediatrics at the Hospital Onofre Lopes University (HUOL)) and four Multiprofessional Residency Programs (Maternal and Child Health at the Multicampi School of Medical Sciences (EMCM), Maternal and Child HUAB, Child Health HUOL and Neonatology (MEJC)) linked to UFRN; with the municipality of Macaíba and, now, also with the municipality of Parnamirim.
