Registration open for the 5th Conference on Multiprofessional Intervention in the Neurogenic Bladder

Posted in October 4, 2022

Registration is now open for the 5th Multidisciplinary Intervention Conference on Neurogenic Bladder, organized by the Santos Dumont Institute (ISD). The event takes place on November 25th and 26th, in a hybrid format. The 2022 edition has the theme: “Innovation and Health Technology in the Treatment of Neurogenic Bladder and Bowel”. This year, the Journey brings something new, with the possibility of exhibiting scientific works. Submissions, in summary format, can be made until October 26th.

The event's main lecture will be given by the professor-researcher from the Edmond and Lily Safra International Institute of Neurosciences (IIN-ELS), one of the ISD units in Macaíba (RN), Edgard Morya, and will have the theme: “Innovation and technology in health". ISD is a reference in the care of patients with neurogenic bladder and bowel, and this line of research has already resulted in several articles and master's theses, ranging from the analysis of treatment protocols to the development of new technologies aimed at managing people with bladder disease. and neurogenic intestine.

“The Neurogenic Bladder Journey is an activity that provides a broad and shared discussion on the topic of neurogenic bladder and intestine in various health conditions associated with neurological changes/injuries. This year's themes were defined with the precept of awareness, critical and reflective thinking of multiple systems involved in controlling urination and evacuation, as well as presenting, in a multi-professional way, new technologies that add value to existing management", reports the creator and coordinator of the Journey, Lilian Lira Lisboa. Every year, Lilian highlights, the Journey brings together health professionals, undergraduate and postgraduate students and even users of this line of care.

The event will feature lectures given by professionals in the areas of neurosurgery, urology, physiotherapy, nursing, psychology and social work. The event will also feature four pre-event mini-courses, with the themes: “Interprofessional assessment in neurogenic bladder and bowel”; “Use of urodynamics in clinical reasoning”; “Neuromodulation” and “Interprofessional management in neurogenic bladder and bowel”. The mini-courses will take place exclusively in person, at ISD units, in Macaíba (RN).

Participants will be able to attend the lectures both in person, in the IIN-ELS auditorium, and remotely. Registration can be done via the electronic form: https://forms.gle/KjLauyLLNZDtKVsy7; and reservations for mini-courses must be made using the following form: https://forms.gle/Z2UPo2JSByckK7Cu9

The theme of the 5th edition, “Innovation and Health Technology in the Treatment of Neurogenic Bladder and Bowel”, seeks to create an environment for discussion about advances made in scientific research and work involving innovation and health technology aimed at treating this condition.

Historic

Since 2017, the Multidisciplinary Intervention Day for Neurogenic Bladder has brought together professionals, researchers and students from different areas to discuss the latest advances in treatments, technologies and research related to the dysfunction, which consists of the difficulty in controlling urinary tract activity in function of a neurological problem.

According to ISD physiotherapist preceptor and master's student in Neuroengineering Luana Farache, although many studies focus on dysfunctions in the urinary tract, this research is aimed at people without neurological conditions. “Most of the time, this same dysfunction in neurological patients is not as in-depth due to the perception that there is not much that can be done for people with neurogenic bladder, because the difficulties they present and the dysfunctions are related to the basic deficiency, and we cannot change that. But, from our experience, we see that this is not true: there is a lot to do for these individuals”, he highlights.

A reference in the assistance of children with neurogenic bladder in Rio Grande do Norte through Anita and active in the development of research and technological solutions for the treatment of the condition through the master's degree in Neuroengineering at IIN-ELS, ISD promotes the event with the aim of create a space for sharing between these and other professionals and groups that work in assistance or research into this dysfunction. “Our objective is both to publicize what the Institute has done and to open the doors so that other groups, other people in this area, can bring their work to light, so that we can have a catalytic moment for advancement and sharing of knowledge” , says Luana Farache.
