In the week of November 14-18, Dora Montenegro, director of the Scientific Education Centers (CECs) and Rachel Dantas, pedagogical advisor for the CECs, were in Caxias (MA) starting the implementation schedule for the Maranhão State Institute of Education, Science and Technology (IEMA) Scientific Education Center. This stage included the selection and hiring of the team of professionals, both pedagogical and administrative. 70 candidates signed up for the selection process and in the end, twelve professionals from different areas were selected.
Internship in RN

Between November 28th and December 2nd, the pedagogical coordinator of IEMA CEC, Luciane Teixeira, and the pedagogical assistant of IEMA CEC, Francisca Morais, will undergo internships at the CECs in Natal and Macaíba.
Luciane, who is a teacher, said that it was essential to get to know the CECs project up close and to see how it works. “It is a proposal that will shake up Caxias. I feel privileged to be part of a project of this magnitude. I can fulfill myself as a professional and as a human being when I can help transform the lives of these children and adolescents. I am delighted!” she said.
Francisca, who is also a pedagogue, added: “These CEC students are individuals who construct their own knowledge.”
In February 2017, the planning and initial training of the entire Maranhão work team will be carried out in Caxias. The IEMA CEC activities are expected to begin in March 2017.
About the ISD and SECTI partnership of Maranhão
In September 2016, the Secretary of State for Science, Technology and Innovation of Maranhão, Jhonatan Almada, visited the units of Santos Dumont Institute (ISD) from the cities of Natal and Macaíba (see the article HERE). In October, the ISD entered into a partnership with the State Secretariat for Science, Technology and Innovation (SECTI) of Maranhão, through a technical cooperation agreement, for the implementation of a Scientific Education Center, located in the municipality of Caxias.
This is one of the public policy actions of SECTI in this state and in the established partnership, the ISD is responsible for providing technical and pedagogical advice in the implementation process, in addition to monitoring pedagogical activities, which will be developed in the building of the Maranhão State Institute of Education, Science and Technology (IEMA).
The future IEMA Center for Scientific Education will have places for 400 students from the public school system in the city of Caxias, who will attend four didactic workshops over a two-year period: Science and Environment, Science and History, Science and Robotics, and Science and Technology. All of them will have as a methodological reference and pedagogical assumptions the Scientific Education project developed by ISD in Natal (RN), Macaíba (RN) and Serrinha (BA).
