O Santos Dumont Institute (ISD) strengthened, this Thursday, 9/3, institutional cooperation with one of its main partners, the Federal University of Rio Grande do Norte (UFRN). During the meeting, the rector of UFRN, Ângela Maria Paiva Cruz, and the ISD General Director, Theodoro Paraschiva, signed an agreement to implement integrated teaching, research and extension actions.

The collaboration document deals with strengthening the teaching-service-community integration in the units that make up the ISD. This reinforces the interaction between the institutions, covering academic activities for undergraduate students and in-service training for students in medical and multidisciplinary residencies for health professions, in addition to extension projects and cooperation in postgraduate programs. stricto sensu.

The new institutional cooperation agreement also formalizes and regulates the integration between the ISD and the Jundiaí Agricultural School (EAJ), with the aim of making the Potiguar Equine Therapy Project viable, which offers services to children with Autism Spectrum Disorder who are users of the Unified Health System. The project is being carried out through a partnership between UFRN and the Specialized Rehabilitation Center of the Anita Garibaldi Center for Education and Health Research (CEPS), a unit that is part of the ISD.

The Multicampi School of Medical Sciences (EMCM), the Medical Residency Programs in Pediatrics at the Onofre Lopes University Hospital and in Gynecology and Obstetrics at the Januário Cicco Maternity School, as well as the innovative Professional Master's Degree in Health Education, are examples of existing partnerships. For the rector of UFRN, these actions already demonstrate the potential for collaboration between the University and the Institute.

The ISD general director stated that the signing of the new agreement with UFRN represents “the strengthening of a successful partnership between two institutions that share a commitment to social justice, democracy and citizenship”.

O professor at UFRN and director of Teaching and Research at ISD, Reginaldo Freitas Júnior, reiterates that the new agreement is an important step forward in relations between the two institutions. “UFRN is one of the main partners of the Santos Dumont Institute. This agreement legitimizes the multiple interfaces of action that already exist and expands the potential for integration to exercise social responsibility in teaching, research and extension in both institutions.”

The Santos Dumont Institute operates in the Northeast region of Brazil in the areas of education, maternal and child health, neuroscience and neuroengineering, and is a legal entity under private law, qualified as a Social Organization (OS) since 2014. The ISD develops its activities through a management contract with the Ministry of Education (MEC), operating in the areas of education, maternal and child health, neuroscience and neuroengineering.
