Road leading to the headquarters of the ISD and the IIN-ELS is named after Alberto Santos Dumont

Posted in May 17, 2019

It is now official: by law, access to the headquarters of Santos Dumont Institute (ISD) and to the Edmond and Lily Safra International Institute of Neuroscience (IIN-ELS) is now called “Alberto Santos Dumont Avenue”.

The bill was proposed by the councilwoman Dadaia Ribeiro and after a session at the Municipal Chamber of Macaíba (RN) the proposal was voted on and approved. On May 16, 2019 the Official Gazette of the Municipality published the Mayor's sanction Fernando Cunha to Law No. 2,004/2019 which refers to the avenue.

The project presented at a session in the City Council on May 7th, presented a justification mentioning the achievements of the great inventor Santos Dumont and remembering Augusto Severo from Macaíba, who also dared to fly. Below is an excerpt from the text:

“In the land of Augusto Severo, there is a path, “still unnamed”, that leads to a place where science is sought to contribute to a more just and humane transformation of Brazilian social reality. Inspired by the iconic and innovative figure of the “Father of Aviation”, the Municipal Chamber of Macaíba proposes that this avenue be renamed “Avenida Santos Dumont”.

In early April, in celebration of the first year of the new IIN-ELS headquarters, the artist's panel was inaugurated Anna Benigna, who presented the Institution with a work of art in which the two inventors, ahead of their time, were able to meet.
