Serrinha Scientific Education Center – BA and both units of the Alfredo J. Monteverde School Scientific Education Center, Natal and Macaíba make the first Exhibition of Works of 2015

Posted in June 10, 2015

The work exhibitions are part of the collective rituals of the Scientific Education Centers of the Santos Dumont Institute and are held during the teaching and learning process during the school year, at the end of each semester. In these exhibitions, students take on different roles, from planning to evaluation, related to the organization and maintenance of spaces and equipment, welcoming visitors, coordinating and developing interactive proposals with the public, monitoring workshops and laboratories expressing the knowledge produced during the semester, which encourages contact with the public and the development of the expression of scientifically based ideas, linking them to the use of Technologies and the Arts.

These events are part of strategies to disseminate scientific knowledge and are also ways to bring parents closer together, so that they can learn about the spaces, equipment and knowledge that their children use and produce. At these events, parents and other visitors also meet and talk with teachers and the entire teaching team and are delighted with what their children learn. The excitement and involvement of everyone is so significant that the exhibitions become true learning celebrations.

The 1st Exhibition of Works of 2015 of the Scientific Education Center of Serrinha - BA, held on Saturday 30/05, received, on average, three hundred parents and family members of the students.

Dona Marina Pereira, mother of Cleiton Pereira Mota, student of the Science and Robotics and Science and Art workshops, participated in the Work Exhibition for the first time.

“It is a great joy to have my son participating in this project and to know how important this school is for his education and his life.”

At the Macaíba branch of the Alfredo J. Monteverde Scientific Education Center, on Saturday, June 13, more than 280 people participated in the Exhibition, including parents and other family members of the students, who represented the municipalities of Macaíba, Bom Jesus and Parnamirim. We also received visits from some former students and partner teachers from our students' schools, as well as a visit from Márcia de Paula Brilhante Portela, Secretary of Education of Macaíba.

Below is part of one of the most representative testimonies from the interviews conducted with parents and family members this semester, given by Hélia Patrícia dos Santos Silva, mother of Lara Beatriz da Silva, a student in the Environmental Science and Science and History Workshop:

Writing on a sheet of paper is not enough to explain how I feel when I see this school and my daughter participating in it. I see how attentive and dedicated the teachers and staff are. I saw that there are committed students who don't stutter or get nervous, and I think that's beautiful. They show interest in what they do and also in explaining it to us.

I saw some very interesting things, for example: I didn't know that you could generate energy by pedaling a bicycle, but now I know how light bulbs work in an electrical circuit, and I now understand what happens at home. I see that my daughter is more dedicated, she has the willpower to wake up very early and come here. She sets her alarm clock to wake up early. So, I want to thank you for all the effort that I see, and all the care and attention to our children.”

At the Natal unit, also on Saturday 13/06, 320 parents and family members of the students participated in the Exhibition and were able to see up close the work created by them in the workshops.

Tânia de Araújo Lima, mother of Ana Cibelly Lima da Silva, a Science and Chemistry and Science and Robotics student, participated in the Work Exhibition and gave her testimony:I am thrilled with your reception, it was very good. You have a very unique way of serving us. […] I noticed that her [daughter Ana]’s eyes were opened more here. She became more interested in knowing how things work and she is always looking at some part, inside the house, equipment […]. She showed me a battery, explained how it worked and so on. […] We are surprised by the breadth of knowledge that the students are gaining at school.”
