The board of the Santos Dumont Institute (ISD) met with state deputy Hermano Morais (PV) this Wednesday (10). The meeting took place during the parliamentarian's visit to the facilities of the Edmond and Lily Safra International Institute of Neuroscience (IIN-ELS), one of the ISD units, in Macaíba.
Hermano was welcomed by the Institute's general director, Reginaldo Freitas Júnior, by Anita's manager, Lilian Lisboa, and by the coordinator of the ISD Specialized Rehabilitation Center (CER ISD), Camila Simão. The group led the congressman on the first floor of the IIN-ELS, where the Therapeutic Gymnasium and the multidisciplinary offices that are part of the CER ISD are located.
The objective of the meeting was to present to Hermano Morais the materials acquired by the ISD from a mandatory parliamentary amendment allocated by the deputy in 2021. The resources, in the order of R$ 100 thousand, were released at the beginning of 2023 and made it possible to purchase permanent equipment, installed in the gym and in the offices.
Among the products purchased are: an orthostatic electric stretcher, five hydraulic stretchers with height adjustment, Pilates equipment, an exercise cage with rails for rehabilitation using different methods, a treadmill and an exercise bike.
“The equipment acquired with the resources from the parliamentary amendment allocated by deputy Hermano Morais was very important for the structuring of the new spaces for care for people with disabilities at the ISD and receiving the deputy here also has the dimension of reporting on the appropriate use of these resources”, stated the general director of the ISD, Reginaldo Freitas Júnior.
The coordinator of CER ISD, Camila Simão, pointed out that the structuring of the Therapeutic Gymnasium and the offices led to the improvement of the services provided by the multidisciplinary teams that work in these spaces. The professionals serve users of the Parkinson's, spinal cord injury and childhood epilepsy care lines.
“The main importance is the quality of the care provided. This equipment allows for specific work to be carried out, focused on the aerobic and strengthening aspects of the user, which has a very positive impact on the rehabilitation of patients,” Camila analyzed.
In addition to services focused on rehabilitation, both at the Therapeutic Gym and in the multidisciplinary offices, clinical research is also carried out for scientific initiation, the Multidisciplinary Residency in Health Care and the master's degree in neuroscience.
State Representative Hermano Morais said that the decision to allocate resources to the ISD was a recognition of the importance of the services provided in the training of health professionals and in the humanized care provided to users with disabilities and neurological problems in several municipalities in Rio Grande do Norte. The parliamentarian also highlighted the importance of fostering scientific development in Rio Grande do Norte.
“I am very happy to see that the resources we allocated to the Institute were very well spent. The work that the ISD carries out needs more support and we want to continue collaborating with the growth of the institution and, consequently, of science in Rio Grande do Norte,” said Hermano Morais.
After the visit, ISD CEO Reginaldo Freitas Júnior presented the parliamentarian with a plaque of appreciation. The honor “recognizes the efforts of state deputy Hermano Morais to strengthen the Care Network for People with Disabilities in Rio Grande do Norte.”
“The ISD is very closely linked to the demands of Rio Grande do Norte society, and this coordination with the legislative branch is very important for implementing public policies related to these demands. A large portion of the population of Rio Grande do Norte lives with some kind of disability. And we understand that it is also our role to ensure that our politicians, legislators and managers are always aware of actions that are effectively capable of guaranteeing the rights, social inclusion and citizenship of these people,” emphasized Reginaldo.
Parliamentary amendment
Parliamentary Amendments are public budget resources, legally indicated by deputies to the Annual Budget Bill (LOA), defined by the Executive. Amendments can be directed to social projects, public works or strengthening demands that benefit the population.
