The first day of the scientific event Neural Mechanisms of Cognitive Function featured lectures by researchers from several international institutions and research centers. The event, organized by researchers from the Santos Dumont Institute (ISD), the United Kingdom and India, is being held at the Pipa Atlântico Hotel, on Pipa Beach, in Tibau do Sul/RN, where hundreds of scientists, students and professionals from all over the world participate in five days of intense programming that discusses various topics in neuroscience.
Supported by award funds from the Simons Foundation and the International Brain Research Organization (IBRO), the conference will take place from April 10 to 14, with a program that includes round tables, lectures, paper presentations and networking spaces.
The conference opened with a lecture by renowned Argentine researcher Rodrigo Quian Quiroga, who discussed the study of memory and neuronal activity in the human hippocampus. Quiroga emphasizes that the exchange of scientific ideas is one of the most relevant points of the event. “It is very interesting to see the level of research that the students produce, creative methods that achieve relevant results”, he reports.

For ISD research professor and event coordinator Andressa Radiske, the conference is a unique opportunity to reinforce the internationalization of scientific knowledge. “Interaction with experts from different parts of the world strengthens collaboration networks and increases the visibility of scientific production here in Brazil and Rio Grande do Norte. These connections also drive the development of projects, publications and new research opportunities,” she says.
In addition to Quian Quiroga, the first day was attended by scientists Tristan Geiller (United States), Mohamady El-Gaby (United Kingdom) and Stefano Panzeri (Germany), who gave lectures on memory mechanisms, the behavioral structure of the brain and the decision-making process, respectively. The full program is available on the event website (https://sites.google.com/isd.org.br/imnsc) and on ISD's Instagram, @isdnarede.
