The work of the Santos Dumont Institute (ISD) in caring for people with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) was presented in a training session promoted by the Carinho Institute, in Brasília/DF, for more than 350 professionals from the Unified Health System (SUS). The event, which took place between June 9th and 10th, is part of the project “Training in Global Developmental Disorders with Emphasis on Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD)”, initiative made possible through the National Program to Support Healthcare for People with Disabilities (PRONAS/PCD), in partnership with the Ministry of Health and the Health Department of the Federal District.
Representing the ISD, neuropsychologist preceptor Caroline Leôncio was responsible for conducting the fourth module of the training, which addressed the practices of multidisciplinary and interdisciplinary teams in the care of autistic individuals. The training was designed to qualify care in Specialized Rehabilitation Centers (CERs) based on humanized approaches, focusing on comprehensive action among different specialties, active listening and the construction of the Singular Therapeutic Project (PTS).
During her participation, Caroline shared ISD’s experience in developing a family-centered care model that values listening to the individual needs of each person and their support network, in addition to encouraging collaborative work among professionals from different areas of health. “The training was a space for dialogue and collective construction, with important exchanges of knowledge about the work of multidisciplinary and interdisciplinary teams from assessment to intervention in the care of people with ASD,” she highlighted. “It was a significant moment to discuss and experience the construction of the PTS, an essential tool to ensure truly comprehensive, humanized care focused on the needs of the person and their family.”
According to the organizers, the course structure was developed based on real demands from public services in the Federal District, with the aim of providing a training space for health teams directly involved in the care of autistic individuals. The proposal is to promote integration between specialties, respecting the particularities of each professional activity, and encouraging collaboration and joint planning of interventions, especially through the construction of the PTS.
The Instituto do Carinho, responsible for the course, is in the process of qualifying as a Specialized Rehabilitation Center (CER IV) and seeks to incorporate collaborative and problem-solving practices, aligned with the guidelines of the Unified Health System and the National Policy for People with Disabilities. The participation of the ISD in the training reinforces the role of the Institute as a national reference in integrated, interdisciplinary care practices and professional qualification for the SUS. The exchange of experiences between institutions strengthens the construction of more efficient, inclusive public policies aligned with the real needs of the Brazilian population.
