The Santos Dumont Institute (ISD) inaugurated, this Monday (23), the continuing education project “Care and Educate”, which aims to offer intersectoral training on child development for teachers and health professionals in the municipality of Macaíba. The training, carried out in partnership with the Education and Health Departments of the municipality, will take place in bimonthly meetings until December.

The project is aimed at early childhood education teachers and professionals from the multidisciplinary team (E-Multi) of the Municipal Health Department (SMS) of Macaíba. The action will be conducted by the ISD's multidisciplinary preceptorship team.

According to the project coordinators, the main objective of the training is to build, through the combined knowledge of the E-Multi and pedagogical teams, spaces for dialogue about child development and to explore possibilities for early stimulation in the school context.

The meetings will take place at the Anita Garibaldi Center for Education and Research in Health (Anita), an ISD unit that is a reference in specialized health care for people with disabilities and maternal and child health, and in the promotion of health education actions and ongoing training.

Samantha Maranhão, a neuropsychologist preceptor and coordinator of health education activities at ISD, emphasizes that the initiative seeks to consider interprofessional work as an institutional strategy.

“We want to show that healthcare gains strength when we consider intersectoral actions. The long-term goal of the training is to think about how early childhood education and primary care, two complementary fields, can enhance child development when combined with a qualified approach,” she explains.

The project plan includes actions for the collective construction of strategies to guide families regarding aspects related to child development – such as warning signs of developmental delays – and the possibilities for pedagogical intervention in daily school life. The idea is that, through the work of professionals, the bond between school and family will be strengthened, promoting shared care.

Furthermore, one of the aims of the training is to enable intersectoral coordination between the Specialized Rehabilitation Center of ISD (CER ISD), the school network, and Primary Care in Macaíba, promoting shared responsibility for the care of children at risk of developmental delays.

Psychologist Ana Kaline Filgueira was one of the participants on the first day of training. She is part of E-Multi in the municipality of Macaíba and views the union of different perspectives, provided by the project's methodology, positively to boost the debate on child development.

“We need to understand all the challenges, from school and family to the society in which the child is embedded. So, talking about child development means delving into all of this, from the perspective of effectively addressing the reality of each individual. Therefore, from this perspective of working with a range of possibilities and various areas of knowledge, we have the desire to build something that will certainly favor this development,” points out the psychologist.
