The Santos Dumont Institute (ISD) received a congratulatory motion from the Legislative Assembly of Rio Grande do Norte for 10 years of qualification of the institution as a Social Organization by the Federal Government. The honor was proposed by state deputy Hermano Morais and recognizes ISD's outstanding performance in teaching, research and extension.
In the document, the Legislative Assembly congratulates the ISD for making a “difference in the lives of so many people from Rio Grande do Norte” and for “promoting education for life, contributing to the fairest and most humane transformation of Brazilian social reality”. The text also mentions the trajectory of the Institute, created by neuroscientist Miguel Nicolelis.
Over the course of a decade of existence, ISD has established itself as a reference in health care for people with disabilities and maternal and child care; in professional qualification for students of health courses, through the Multiprofessional Residency in Health Care for People with Disabilities (RESPCD), and in stimulating research and innovation in neurosciences, through the pioneering master's degree in Neuroengineering.
“ISD is very happy with this recognition. We are very proud to be a Potiguar heritage. Our actions are strongly linked to the demands of society and this coordination with the most diverse social actors, including the legislative branch, is essential for the implementation of public policies related to these demands. It is also our role to help ensure that our politicians, our legislators and our managers are always attentive to actions that are effectively capable of guaranteeing the rights, social inclusion and citizenship of the people of Rio Grande do Norte”, declared the general director of the Institute, Reginaldo Freitas Júnior.
The motion is signed by state deputy Kleber Rodrigues, second vice-president of the Board of Directors of the Legislative Assembly, dated May 14, 2024.
Historic
The Santos Dumont Institute (ISD) is a Social Organization linked to the Ministry of Education (MEC) and operates from two units: the Anita Garibaldi Health Education and Research Center (Anita) and the Edmond and Lily Safra International Institute of Neurosciences (IIN-ELS), both in Macaíba.
ISD was created inspired by the innovative figure of Alberto Santos Dumont, father of aviation. The institution operates in the areas of maternal and child health, health of people with disabilities, neurosciences and neuroengineering.
Social Organization
A presidential decree of February 27, 2014 qualified ISD as a Social Organization – a legal entity under private law, non-profit, which obtained the qualification of OS to carry out activities of public interest. Currently, ISD carries out its activities through a Management Contract signed with the Ministry of Education.
