ISD receives visit from secretary of the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation

The Santos Dumont Institute (ISD), a Social Organization linked to the Ministry of Education, received this Tuesday afternoon (30) a visit from Inácio Arruda, Secretary of Science and Technology for Social Development, from the Ministry of Science and Technology (MCTI ). He visited the teaching and research facilities at the Edmond and Lily Safra International Institute of Neuroscience (IIN-ELS), one of the ISD units, in Macaíba.

The secretary previously participated in the State CT&I Conference, organized by the Foundation for Support and Promotion of Science, Technology and Innovation of RN (Fapern), and took advantage of the opportunity to visit Natal to visit the facilities of the Augusto Severo Technological Park (PAX) and from ISD.

“Today, when opening the conference, I said that I needed to visit Pax and go to the Santos Dumont Institute, because sophisticated research, at the frontier of knowledge, needs to be supported not only by the government, but especially by the population,” he said. the secretary.

The visit to the ISD was led by the IIN-ELS manager, Edgard Morya, who presented the laboratories and equipment, as well as research carried out at the institute, such as that which studies the activity of mirror cells associated with the implantation of electrodes to stimulate the movements of patients undergoing physical rehabilitation.

Also accompanied by Olavo Bueno, director-president of PAX, Arruda praised the results observed at the site and defended the expansion of investments made through the National Fund for Scientific and Technological Development, through FINEP, as well as the need to unite science and companies , through initiatives such as the implementation of PAX and applied research developed at ISD.

“We need to speed up. And speeding up means not only having equipment, but you have to have more personnel, more people, and further expand the Institute's service provision. It is necessary to populate the region with high-technology companies, and these two institutions have the capacity to attract companies, but they need the contribution of the central government”, he assessed.

The secretary declared that he intends to return to the Institute in the presence of Luciana Santos, Minister of State for Science, Technology and Innovation, with the aim of facilitating new partnerships and investments.
