Cetran member, ISD user accompanies practical test for people with disabilities at Detran RN for the first time

Posted in October 1, 2024

On Monday (30), Luciana Carla Guedes, a member of the State Traffic Council (Cetran) and a user of the parasports care line at the Santos Dumont Institute (ISD), attended, for the first time, a practical driving test by a person with a disability. Luciana, who has been a member of the council for four months, has a spinal cord injury and uses a wheelchair to get around, the aftermath of a car accident she suffered in 1994.

This monitoring is part of Cetran's duties, but it had never been carried out by a person with a disability until now. The aim is to ensure that the necessary conditions are offered for PcD to take the test. Luciana's presence represents a milestone in inclusion and representation within the state's traffic system, highlighting the importance of people with disabilities occupying decision-making spaces.

During the observation of the practical test, Luciana highlighted the importance of her participation in strengthening the inclusion process. “It is essential that people with disabilities have an active voice in the processes that involve our reality. Being present here is an important step in ensuring that our rights are respected and that the system is prepared to meet our needs,” she stated.

The activity was also attended by the president of the Society for Friends of the Physically Disabled (Sadef), Dario Gomes da Silva. He reinforced the importance of new spaces being occupied by people with disabilities. “We will only be seen when we are represented in all areas of society. Having a person with a disability accompanying the practical tests at Detran is another step towards ensuring greater inclusion and ensuring the rights of people with disabilities,” he believes.

The Santos Dumont Institute, through its care lines, has contributed to the quality of life of this group, offering support and rehabilitation for people with different types of disabilities. Luciana's participation in Cetran reinforces the transformative role of the ISD in promoting autonomy and social inclusion. "I see that the ISD was the path that helped me get to where I am today. The words of encouragement and the assistance provided in parasports made me see a new possibility and gave me the strength to be in the position I hold today," she says.
