Neurosciences at Pipa Beach: scientific event has confirmed opening lecture with renowned Argentine researcher

Renowned researcher Rodrigo Quian Quiroga, originally from Argentina, is the confirmed guest for the opening lecture of the event Neural Mechanisms of Cognitive Function, organized by researchers from the Santos Dumont Institute (ISD), in Macaíba, the United Kingdom and India. The event will take place on Pipa Beach, from April 10 to 14, 2025, with participants and speakers from all over the world. 

With over 120 articles and five books published, Quiroga is an expert in the study of memory and neuronal activity and signal processing. He is currently a professor at the University of Leicester in the United Kingdom, where he heads the Department of Bioengineering and the Center for Systems Neuroscience. At the event, his talk will be “A unique coding of memory in the human hippocampus.”

Sponsored with funding from awards from the International Brain Research Organization (IBRO) and the Simons Foundation, the event will be held at the Pipa Atlântico Hotel, in Praia de Pipa, Rio Grande do Norte, and will bring together researchers from all over the world in a program that includes lectures, round tables and presentations of papers. Researchers of any level of education, whether working in Brazil or in other countries around the world, can participate in the event.

Those interested in participating are invited to submit papers for the event, following the guidelines set out in the registration form. The submitted abstracts will be evaluated by the Scientific Committee of the event and some of them will be selected for presentations at the event.

The event was conceived by ISD research professors Andressa Radiske and Maria Carolina Gonzalez, together with Oxford researcher Vitor Lopes dos Santos and Abhilasha Joshi, a professor at the Indian institution NCBS.

Quian Quiroga is a physicist from the University of Buenos Aires and holds a PhD in Applied Mathematics from the University of Lübeck, Germany. He was a postdoctoral researcher at the Jülich Research Center, Germany. In 2004, he became a professor at the University of Leicester, UK, where, in 2012, he founded the “Centre for Systems Neuroscience”. 

He is a Fellow of the UK Academy of Medical Sciences and has been selected as one of the 10 UK Leaders in Science and Engineering by the Royal Academy of Engineering and the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council.
