This month is known as “Blue April” due to the awareness about Autism. The Anita Garibaldi Health Education and Research Center (CEPS) counts on the Multidisciplinary Autism Spectrum Care Service (SEMEA), a reference in the care of Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) in children in the region of Macaíba-RN.
Among the SEMEA actions dedicated to this special month is the interview with the CEPS neuropediatrician, Celina Reis, granted to the Good Morning RN Newspaper, from the broadcaster Inter TV Cabugi (Rede Globo affiliate in Rio Grande do Norte). In it, Reis commented that ASD is a neurological development disorder that usually develops in the first years of a person's life. The main signs of the onset of the disorder are changes in social interaction, language and behavior. The earlier the diagnosis is made and treatment is started, the better the chances of the condition evolving. Click on the image below to watch the full interview with Celina Reis.

SEMEA
SEMEA was created by CEPS in 2015 and offers care provided by professionals from various health areas. SEMEA currently receives an average of 80 children from Macaíba and neighboring municipalities and since 2017 has offered, through the SUS, in partnership with the Jundiaí Agricultural School (EAJ/UFRN), the Potiguar Equine Therapy, a project that uses horse therapy as a complementary possibility of monitoring children treated at CEPS (more information in the article available HERE).
