Researcher Manuela Sales, from the Edmond and Lily Safra International Institute of Neuroscience (IIN-ELS), had her work, together with other researchers from Yale University, published in the world's leading journal on immunological mechanisms, Immunity, with an impact factor of 19.73.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
The work shows a mechanism by which Listeria, a bacterium present in contaminated food and which can even cause meningitis, uses certain populations of immune cells to spread the infection and sometimes kill the host. Knowing this, these cell populations now become good targets for interventions and treatments.
